Since it is saturday and I have no life I got really bored and decided to rip open an old slot A Athlon 500mhz I found at a local store for $20. Upon removing the case and the heatplate I revealed the core and it said

K7650CURAFC
9062113 0444
9939FPGW

So my question is.....did AMD just rebadge 650's as 500 becasue of good yields, I can't recall whether the 500's were good at overclocking or not. Anyone got any ideas?

amd was very guilty of rebadging due to exceptional yields in those days.....overclocking really depends with the slot A's....

i had an 800@963 before i tried to solder mod the cache divisor and lost a resistor...lol

also have a tbird 750@1000

those 2 prolly had thier rated cores in them though

and the new toy is a 650 which like yours was rebadged...it has a 700 core in it...

several of the lower speed grades (500, 550, 600, 650) were simply higher speed chips rebadged and sold as lower speed grade ones to satisfy demand...i wish you luck with it...i'd expect it to go to about 800 with good cooling...

i too had the luck with my 750 slot tbird. it came with an 850 core and now its oc to a gig. ebay is so great. got it a year ago for $30 shipped on ebay
