My internet has been spiking in games for some reason now. I usually have around 50 ping and now it spikes up all the way to 900, stays there for a few seconds, and then slowly falls back to 50. I ran speedtest.net and it goes up to 5000 but then slowly drops to 700 and stays there.

Please help :(
 
you have any torrents or anything running? usually uploading data is the first thing to raise your ping...
 
Could try booting into Safe Mode with Networking and re-running tests and such.
Would pretty likely tell you if it's your PC or the network.
 
I finally noticed whenever my family is doing so heavy internet surfing or "youtubing" that is when my ping skyrockets. But even when I unplug their computer from the router my download speeds are now 80 KB/sec. as they used to be 500kb/sec before.

I ran virus scan and nothing. Is my router dying? Its about 3 years old. Are my cables wearing out? (can that happen?)

My modem also gets pretty hot. Can that be a problem?
