from googling around it sounds like this is a common problem with Sony Bluray players....did everything according to instructions, let it download the update, it did and rebooted on it;s own and indicated it was installing the update and then after another reboot comes up "SYS ERR" and the drive tray pops open.......
from what I gather it is now a $100 paperweight that is of course, just out of warranty
