I want to get my friend a SSD, but he has a mac that doesnt even have SATA II. I know OSX doesnt have TRIM either, so I'm going to try to get a SSD with garbage collection. But what should I do about the SATA I? I know sequential read/write isn't the most important thing, and hes still going to get a big leap in performance, but would it affect random read/write or 4k or any of that other stuff?

Should I get a high end SSD or a budget SSD? Premium SSD still seem to be simply better, even if the max r/w is capped, but is it worth the $?

Lastly, theres no difference from a "desktop" SSD and a "laptop" SSD right? They are typically 2.5" which should fit right?

I used an X25-M G1 in my old Santa Rosa MBP which just had Sata 1.5Gbps. It was still plenty fast.

Personally I would grab an Indilinx or a Toshiba based drive, as they have great ITGC.

Damn, missed the TD deal today of a 90gb Vertex 2 for 117$ shipped. That would have been perfect. :(
