Stick with digital optical or go back to my old Klipsch Pro Media 4.1s?

For games should I stick with using the optical output of my motherboard to my receiver and Astro Mixamp or should I go back to using my old Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 set and use the analog outputs of the onboard sound?

What would be the pros and cons?

If your motherboard does not support dolby digital live or dts connect, everything will be stereo only. The only exception is dvd's or other media sources that are already encoded with ac3 or dts in which case you just set your optical to allow spdif passthrough. I have never heard of any games that are encoded in ac3 or dts, so all your games will be stereo using optical out. In which case your receiver will have to use prologic to upmix it and create an illusion of multichannel.

I would suggest sticking with the Klipsch.

My motherboard manual says:

VIA VT1708S High Definition Audio 8-channel CODEC
- DTS Surround Sensation Ultra-PC

Is this a case where I'd be better off with the Klipsch 4.1s?
