Superior display connection debate: DVI or ADC

DVI won the battle…but to me the Apple Display Connector (ADC) made a lot of sense. In addition to the video signal in the cable, it also carried the power and a data connection. With DVI - its on separate lines of course, which makes for an ugly set up.

Am I missing something here – is this just another case of superior technology that was ramrodded by cheaper yet inferior technology.?
