Whats up, i'm now dabbling into the field of surveillance and happen to have 4 BNC camera's laying around that i wanted to put up in my garage. so here's my question. I see BNC seems to be a either expensive or outdated way to go. i found a few video cards with some software and was wondering if its best to go cheap or not.

here are a few i have found

http://www.amazon.com/4-Channel-Surveillance-Video-Capture-Card/dp/B000Z4ARJK

and

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009HQC42

so you tell me.

thank you for your advice in advance.

Here's one of the bottom link I found: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16881127001

Seems like they are still in use, using H.264 and MPEG-2 compression, up to four cameras each at 30fps with 640x480 seems pretty good for this price point, considering you already have the cameras.

Seems like a good investment choice for your garage or small business.

I'd stay away from the cheap cards though, they are cheap for a reason, i.e., bad drivers, little to no features, poor camera support or cord range, etc.

i agree with you with the cheapness factor but my question was is it worth it to invest in such technology?

i'll give it a try with that newegg link you sent me. thank you for your help home slice.

It seems like it should be worth it, since BNC is the equivalent to cable with a different connector and 640x480 @ 30Hz H.264 seems good for surveillance. An yeah, np ;)
