tell me why my 3dmark05 score sucks..

let me start with my rig..

asus a8n-sli premium mobo
amd64 3200+ venice
corsair 1gb 3200
bfg 7800gtx
wd raptor 74gb
ocz powerstream 600

i score always slightly below 4000..

i see other people scoring like 7k-8k.. and someone said everyone with 7800 scores that high.. well, i have 7800 and i score crap.. can someone please shine some light?
 
Are you running anything else in the background? Even with just F@H and MSN Messenger running, I go from 8500+ 3DMark05 to about 5000.
 
nice card. is the processor overclocked at all? have you checked to see that everything is running at the correct speeds and that 3dmark05 is on the correct settings.

1. Have all "useless" processes been eliminate (i.e. any other program that 3dmark, anti virus, software firewalls etc).
2. Have you updated your mobo BIOS to the latest revision
3. Have you updated your mobo to the latest drivers
4. Have you upgraded your video card to the latest drivers
5. Did you run driver cleaner before doing #3 and #4?

If you can't say yes to all 5 then do all 5 :) I havea BFG 7800GTX and a 3700 SanDiego @ stock and got 8250 for 3dmark05. You should be at about 7800 3dmarks because 3dmark05 is very CPU dependant with the 7800GTX.

I have the same hardware as you do but my video card is X800XL and my score at everything stock is 5068. Go and grab a copy of this windows XP tweak guide.

Ack! Got 8149 with a few processes running in the background. Always thought that it didn't matter if background stuff was there, so going to shut down everything when i get home from work and see if i can raise my score.... :D

3dmark is not useless, and this situation is exactly why it IS useful. 3dmark is telling him that something isn't right, without 3dmark he could easily play games for weeks or more before he realized that he wasn't getting the performance he deserved.
 
Also make sure you havn't forced aa or af and set the quality setting to performance if you want the best score.
 
wow, i can now say my 6800NU is faster than a 7800GTX, even if its unfair :)
