The Fallout New Vegas Thread * will contain spoilers *

Beyond all the bugs and problems, the game is great. Anyone passing it up is missing out imo. I hate that they are still using a buggy engine but the writing was worth it. I really got in the game and plan on second play through sometime in the near future.

Do you know what's fun? Taking on a swarm of scorpions/giant scorpions with explosives.

I have noitced that there are much less random people/creatures out and about compared to FO3. Makes keeping a high stock of ammo difficult..

I haven't touched the strip yet though. I am trying to explore everything else first, though the deathstalkers are still stopping me from exploring a lot, specially on the far eastern side of the map. I still have no effective way to kill them quickly.

I've been going GTA on settlements lol. I always save so I dont screw up my game, and then just go and blow up as much crap and people as possible till Im ready to start playing again, then just go reload the last save. Its great for when you just want to play but dont feel like doing a quest.

Agreed. I think it's probably my personal GOTY.

I should do that when I get bored. Although I haven't been bored yet. I've only been too tired, because I stay up too late and need to go to bed.

I wouldn't call it GOTY worthy but it is certainly a good game.

GOTY for me. I'd put ME2 2nd behind this.

If ME2 didn't feel like I was on rails, then yes, but the whole game felt like I was on one of those underground Disney world float rides, except I could chose right or left at forks sometimes. Disney could actually make a ME2 float ride and capture the whole ME2 experience. If I were creative with video editing, I'd make a youtube video of it.

I still loved ME2 nevertheless. But there is so much more to do in New Vegas and so many different ways the game can pan out.

i just cant believe the limitations and sheer buggyness that is the Gamebryo engine i think thats what truly holds Vegas back for me i expect more from a supposedly mature engine.

Just finished it to an independent Vegas ending on an Xbox360. So much to do I only scratched the surface, the game is huge. It crashed several times and the FPS was bad frequently. Some things were hidden a little too well for my liking. Still, this game is so good it might be GOTY in spite of it's problems.

LOL i like the description and i feel the same way about ME2 - dont' forget that its the Disney float ride with end mission summary screens (Bleh!)

There is a BoS abandoned bunker (not hidden valley) in the lower right part of the map, it's needs a key, there must be side quest related. Anyone knows how to get that side quest?

I have Veronica equipped with the Paladin Toaster (an EMP power fist) and she's a killer with robots  btw does she ever remove that ugly hood? It collides with the power armor helmet.

Definitively Hidden Valley is the best way to get energy weapons, you just stea... errg... I mean "borrow" them (indefinitely ;)) from sleeping BoS palandins, i got so far Gatling Lasers, Gauss Rifles, Tri-Laser Rifles, Laser RCW, Power Armors, and lots of ammo :D

The NPC AI has been really bothering me. Went down into Valut 34 with Veronica and ED-E (these are the only two I have found) and they do some absurd shit. For instance, I will open a door, load into a new area, and they take off like gangbusters down a bunch of hallways to try to fight 10 guys at once who were no where near the door. Unfortunately, I am playing on Hardcore, so I had to reload each time they died. ED-E was also getting stuck on doors all the time.

Is there a good place to stock up on Rad-Away? I died of radiation poisoning in the vault, and eventually had to haul ass out of the place without looting the armory because of the radiation.

Is there some sort of party management system, or do you have to drop your current NPCs forever to get someone new?

Yeah, ED-E spots them from too far. And it gets the AI in "we are in danger" mode far too soon.

To deal with radiation, you should get the space suit. I found it in the rocket factory at one of the final areas of the "fly away" quest. You been there yet?

To manage your peeps, have you used "wait here"? Use "E" to click on them to activate them.

Having to constantly babysit my companions gets extremely old and tiring. Every time I fast travel anywhere I always swing my camera around to make sure they're behind me. More often than not they aren't and I have to backtrack several times to find them stuck in a doorway or idling in the middle of nowhere. On top of that sometimes they completely bolt off in some random direction in a completely straight line for at least a quarter mile then stop and turn around casually walking back to me. Happens to me almost all the time near the Gun Runners. Seriously, the companion AI is fucked. But, as mentioned before on the few occasions this game isn't completely going ape shit it is pretty satisfying.

In other news, has anyone attempted a direct assault on Caesar/The Fort? I've been thinking about it since I've already begun "ethnic cleansing" of all Legion from the wastes, but was wondering what sort of implications there would be.

I sure did after I ran into their handiwork in a few areas. Bring companions. Be well armed and armored.

It's worthwhile. ;)

I did the rocket quests, but did not find the suit. I can always go back and look around.

Two problems with using "wait here," at least in the Vault 34 instance. (1) I had them wait outside the armory door. I wanted them to help me fight all those armored ghouls, but they kept dieing during the fight, so I left them up there. When I zoned back, I got the "ED-E has died" pop up, even though I cleared the whole place out first. (2) When I zone in to the armory door with the NPCs, I have to do some ninja keyboard mashing and mouse clicking to grab Veronica as she races down the stairs to punch shit.

If they won't improve the AI, they should give the companions some sort of VATS that we can control.

Is there some way to re-open the Stratosph...I mean Lucky 38 and run it yourself? I killed Mr. House and got a pop up about how a terrible tragedy had befallen the world, so I reloaded. I also had to chase Benny to the Legion and could not leave until I killed him, even though I had been killing them on sight over and over.

Note that companions can't jump, meaning that you should always select a flat route.

Totally going to roll in there wearing the NCR Veteran Ranger armor to add insult to injury with my eyes bloodshot and mouth foaming from every Chem known and unknown to man flowing through my veins. I'm thinking a few Riot Shotguns with 600 or so Magnum Shells should suffice. :D

Is it possible to make Turbo? I'm running low.

I can't believe you actually let Benny weasel his way out of your first encounter with him. I delivered a .22LR round to his dome the instant I got alone time with him.

I just cleared out the entire Legion fort last night - got tired of them so I busted out the Cowboy Repeater (fully modded) with 500 AP rounds, Bounty Hunter Duster, 1st Recon Beret and Sunglasses. Took Med-X, Psycho and unleashed hell.

Very satisfying!

I also have to decide how to deal with the Brotherhood of Steel guys - not sure if I want to unseat the one guy or leave him in place.

I would want to think about it first but it deserves it more than F3 did.

Inadvertently - I had an issue where I couldn't enter the fort without being attacked even though I had the mark thing that was supposed to give me immunity. Worked my way through all of them and then had to spend about an hour figuring out how far back to go in my save files so that I could ender Caesar's tent and find Benny.

Yeah, the suit is on a rack, near or in the underground room where you can see the rockets and radiative material spills through a window. Not sure about the Lucky 38 stuff.

I didn't even wait that long. ;)

I capped Benny after our first conversation in the suite. Can't let someone who shoots my guy right in the face get away with it!

Black Widow perk made it easy to get alone with him right when I met him. After that, his nice gun was no match for my ranger takedown move. No need to smuggle weapons when a few punches and kicks can shame him even more.

The All American is awful? It fits in perfectly between my Riot Shotgun and Anti-Material Rifle. Though I don't use it as often as those two, it certainly does have its uses when taking on multiple targets at medium range. Definitely prefer it over the Assault Carbine. The armory was also loaded with several big guns and sniper rifles too, great if you have Jury Rigging.

Yeah, the Gamebryo engine is a steaming pile of shit. New Vegas is going to be the last Fallout game I buy on day one by Bethesda if they continue to use this engine. It's hideous, terribly unstable and they don't seem to be attempting to improve it at all.

If gamebryo is so bad, write a better one yourself.

id Tech 5 will be replacing Gamebryo. Other than that, people should feel free to complain about it since they spent money on the games and it can be a less than satisfying experience. Gamebryo is a problematic game engine that has been used in multiple games without any (apparent) significant updates to its reliability or visuals.

This most engines start buggy and with each game using it gets smoother, prettier, etc i mean fuck the NWN 2 engine was heavily tweaked to run The Witcher... night and day but same engine at heart.

Gamebryo has gotton only worse not better since Oblivion was released.

Actually, in my experience the engine has gotten better. Morrowind was the worst for me. Then Oblivion was second worst. Then Fallout 3. And finally, New Vegas has been the best as far as stability I have ever experienced.

I'm not sure if they are going for Tech 5. Supposedly they said they wouldn't use it. And it might not be mod friendly. But we'll see I guess.

Yeah didn't they say they won't be using idTech 5? It wouldn't lend itself well to a truly open-world game, since there's a ton of visual trickery going on to conserve framerates.

Well look at some of the id Tech 5 demo videos. Some are interiors and others are outside, including driving It looks designed for open world game play. id said the game would feature huge seamless areas. Sounds perfect for a Fallout game :D

They also said that id Tech 5 would not be licensed outside of the ZeniMax and implied future titles would be id Tech 5 based.

I never got any alone time. My speech/barter/whatever skill it was when I talked to him in the casino was not high enough to insist he go with me up to his room. I went up there after him, and he escaped out some back door and I met the Yes Man robot and all that.

I had to machete him to death in front of Caesar, which I did not want to do because I did not want to help Caesar.

I knew there was an article about this, and here it is: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/111/1112467p1.html

Bethesda Game Director Todd Howard explained in a separate interview with IGN that his game would not use id Tech 5. The studio's new engine built for its upcoming title is more beneficial to creating huge, open-world games, such as Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, while id Tech 5 is better for more contained environments.
...

"Id Tech 5 is the best thing in the world at doing a very static environment that looks pretty and you're going to run through. But for the kinds of things I like to do, I like the world to be more dynamic."

I really don't see how he can say that with a straight face after releasing 3 technical nightmares in a row. But props to them for working on a new engine. Also I really never saw any of these games as being really dynamic. Just large open worlds where not much changes unless it is on the other side of a loading screen.

I just helped the legion overtake the entire Vegas area. Awesome ending although with how it ended it really makes me feel like I missed out on a huge amount of quest so I think a second play-through really feels like it's in order.

20 Hours or so to complete first play-through, I'm sure on the second play-through I'm going to explore much more.

Yeah you definitely missed out on a lot. Took me 38 hours to beat the game and even then I didn't do everything.

Something like 85 hours in here and I've only just crossed the river. Not even done all the side quests due to my alliances.
