Transporting a monitor overseas

Lets say I buy a 24" monitor right now. In about a year I'm going to have to drag it back with me on a plane or something. Is there any good way of transporting it? Is it going to survive in the original packaging if I just put it with the regular luggage?
 
keep the box and the foam and Fedex or UPS it to yourself. Airline luggage carriers are horrible about keeping stuff in less than a thousand pieces.
 
I don't think that's an option. It costs too much to ship the thing.
