tri sli

i doubt it, unless you really want to run crysis at high res and settings, otherwise its pointless. even regular SLI is unnecessary unless you game at ridiculous resolutions.

Aside from the cost considerations, the main disadvantage to Tri-SLI is the greatly reduced expansion potential in a system but that might not matter if you're building a dedicated gaming machine and have other systems to do everything else. Then there's the secondary concern of power requirements. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you have a 30" monitor, play new games at full IQ, and only have a sound card installed, then it might be worth it to take the plunge.

THere is also the thermal xconsiderations. If you do it I highly recommend using watercooling on the cards. I have 3 Msi Ultra 8800s(660 Mhz from the factor) And they are stupid hot.

Cheers

but is it true that you still cant run multiple monitors on an sli setup?
That is correct. The BigBang drivers due soon from nVidia are expected to finally allow SLI+Multi monitor support.

Cause thats the major deciding factor on wether i go ati or nvidia, cause i haaavvvvveeee to have atleast 2 monitors.

if you have a 30 inch LCD then it does come worth it to a point.

I would really not try it atm. Wait for the 200 series die shrink and new drivers first. You will get more energy efficient cards with better drivers and probably performance increases.

Honestly? I would not bother unless all 3 cards had at least the 896 vram that the 260 has if not the 1 gb 280. Reason is b/c when you tri-sli, it is only a benefit for the highest resolutions and thus the extra ram is a requirement for textures.

Although you could go with 3 cheap 9800gt for up to 1920x1200 speed. That would allow for max everything in any game with a good cpu.

If you can wait they should enabling it soon from what they have said (Nvidia has had it in all reality for years, they intentionally disabled it and left it for the quadro pro card line) If you have to have it now then you will need to go to an ATI setup, perfectly good option right now.

To the OP, tri sli is a toy. GPU do not currently scale well past two. unless you have unlimited funds and no use for your motherboard slots there is no reason to go past two cards. Having said that its also [H]ardware porn:D
