I'm using a corsair 128gb ssd as a boot drive in my new build. Originally I installed windows with the drives in IDE mode. After reading about the advantages of ahci, I did the registry fix and changed to ahci in bios.

The computer now takes much longer to boot - most of the time is spent at the windows loading screen. Once windows boots everything is quick. What is causing this and how can I fix it? Windows booted almost instantly in IDE mode.

thanks

you need to install the AHCI driver before windows is installed as well.

also update chipset and sata drivers.

So given the position I am in based on my original post, can I install those drivers now and from where?

thank you and I apologize if these are stupid questions

it causes problems in the long run to do the switch. just reinstall now and get it over with. the switch works fine for a while, but most users experience probs in the long run.
