I just got a free 92mm fan (Thermaltake Brand, I think) that is a bit too loud. Is there anyway to undervolt a fan that uses motherboard connectors instead of molex? I would prefer not to use SpeedFan because that means I have to set it to run on a low RPM everytime I turn off my computer then turn it on.

nop, not I could think of unless if you wan't to buy a fan controller..

You could wire a resistor in line with the 12v lead to drop the power to the fan.

I would just cut the cord and put a 4 pin molex on it. Connect red (fan) to yellow (molex) and black(fan) to red (molex) and it will be running @ 7V.

To keep the motherboard header, the only way to do it is with a resistor. I would look at some rheostats (100 ohm should work) if you're gonna go that route.

You can get a cheap rheostat at radioshark and wire it into the 12v lead. That way you can dial up your fan speed manually. You just need to find rheostat or variable resistor that meets your needs.
