I am considering testing this software and then if if passes my personal validation which will be very thorough I am going to push these devices to my clients as a Unified Point of Protection on my non Cisco hardware clients. If they were Cisco I would use IPS/SSC/SSM modules etc...

What I am curious about is the following few simple questions:

1. Can I completely disable the firewall 100%. NO FIREWALLING.
2. Can the U device since it is layer 3, be placed behind a router or firewall device?
3. How do I get definition updates on the free version of untangle?

Thanks. I am new to Untangle, really havent looked into it until now, and am going to setup a test lab and virtualize some stuff to see how it works.

1. yes via bridge mode
2 yes ip is used for management purposes
3 not sure never played with it.

as for 3 it can pull the updates automatically or you can tell it when to update via the web interface. Very straight forward. All updating is done via the upgrade menu under the config tab regardless of which modules you have installed.
