Using a 2nd Video Card with no Crossfire or SLI support on Motherboard...

I have a Asus P5Q3 Deluxe Wifi motherboard, that has three PCI-E 2.0 slots that can fit video cards in all of them (theoretically), but I'm not entirely sure how you would use them if there is no Crossfire or SLI support on the motherboard. I've tried searching online and in this forum, but my search terms are so broad, I really don't know what I'm looking for.

Could anyone tell what and how I could use a second video card? Right now I have an ATI 4850 as my singular video card, but I do have a GeForce 8800 GT in my other rig.

Oh...haha, I guess I missed that for some odd reason. But what about the third 4x PCI-E slot? Is there any real reason for it?

Thanks!

Three cards in crossfire, can use it for a physics card later on, another card to get more monitor support...
