Video card recommendation for under $250

Im looking to buy a video card tonight, for at or under $250. I was thinking about either getting a 6870 or a EVGA superclocked GTX 460. The advantage of the 460 is I could always step up in the next 30 days. I play games at 1920x1080. Any suggestions.
 
I'd say wait one more day. 6950 potentially may come in at the 5850 launch price of $250. Otherwise I have seen the 6870 for $200 AR, the HD5870 for $220 and the GTX470 for under $230 lately. All 3 are good cards and perform pretty close to each other.

AFAIK the 6950 will cost $299dlls

Tiger direct had a deal on the 470 for $209 AR maybe its still up.
 
I really need a card that supports bitstreaing Dolby True HD and dts master. Therefore, I think im between the 6870 and the gtx 460. Plus I didn't really want the added heat of the 470. If I got the 460, I would probally just step up to a 560 when they are released.
 
I use the 460 in my HTPC and love it, the audio is superb and unlike most add in sound cards it works flawlessly without any hassle or dicking around.
 
The 460 is ALOT cheaper than the 6870, you should be comparing it to the 6850 (which I like more anyway)
 
I'd buy 2x460 GTX's. These sli easily beats a GTX 480! Get them for about $130 each after rebates.

Also don't get the superclock if you can get something else cheaper, they are the same chips and you can oc a normal one to the same clock as a superclocked one.
 
6870. Slightly faster than a GTX470, uses less power and makes less heat. $240'ish

Not trying to be rude, but from what I have seen the GTX 470 almost always bests the 6870 in benchmarks. Slightly slower than a GTX 470 would be more accurate.

They're ~equal in my book with the 470 costing less so the 470 wins for me

at lower resolution/settings the 470 wins but the higher the settings get the better the 6870 gets
 
6870 is also a bunch more efficient then those cards, and would probably reasonably quickly make up any price difference with electricity saved.

Its splitting hairs actually. They trade punches back and forth. The 6870 is slightly ahead by a frame or two in most benchies but the 470 manages a frame or two edge in a few. In the real world, I bet youd never notice a difference but with the 6870 coming in $10+ less at the moment, it is the better buy.

460GTX hands down, & no matter what anyone else wants to argue against this. 460GTX owns the $200 bracket & you can keep the other $50; if you however wish to save another week, get the 6950 & call it a day.
 
Looks like you got a great deal on the GTX 460 - EVGA, superclocked, and for only $160 AR.
