ok so i was loading up vista ultimate 64 on a box and it worked good till it went into sleep mode and when it came back the internet wouldnt come back on it only had local access, ive ran across this before and the only way i could get it working again is to install vista again..i read alot of problems on it and all the fixes but nothing works.

So 4times back to back installs the network is stuck in local access only mode i cannot get it to pick up an ip address or connect to the internet, Even sticking in static ips dont do anything.

does anyone have a work around this? from what ive last read its still a big issue

thx

Did you install SP1? Or see anything in the event logs? Maybe update your chipset drivers and bios.

are all dns settings in your router set to auto? it sounds more like your comp isnt receiving an ip.

If he can see his router than he's getting an IP. If you reinstall the OS it sounds like it's a hardware issue though because settings are obviously wiped. Going to sleep mode might of just been a coincidence.

Well the first time i loaded vista on the computer it was fine... I had updated all the patches and restarted....untill i went to sleep and the computer went into sleep mode. when it resumed it only had local access. DHCP was on but unable to get any info. Restarting it did nothing..ipconfig/releasing renews did nothing.

Ive actually had this problem on about 3 different loads of vista on new hard ware and its a seriously pain in the ass.

There are alot of fixes on the net for it but most of the times they do not work. I turned off everytying ipv6, firewall ...set static ip's but still no connection...just sticks on local access only.

The only way to get it working was to format the drives and reinstall vista again....but on this particualr box it took 5times to reinstall vista for it to boot up with local and internet access....and when it happens you have to go set the common dont let windows turn off this connection....and turn it to power mode so it never sleeps. ...at least that has worked for my other boxes that have had the same problems and they are going strong still..... And yes this is a SP1 load...

But anyhow i guess the problem is still around even with SP1. You can google the problem vista and dhcp or no internet access after sleep mode or whatever...ive seen people fighting this problem for months.

If anyone else is having this problem there are a few links to try to fix your issue

this one seems to do it for most
