Vista: anyone used Easy Transfer/Companion?

Tomorrow I have to move my Dad from his XP machine to one with Vista. I'm curious if anyone has experience using Easy Transfer to transfer user accounts, files and settings, and the beta Transfer Companion to move programs.

I plan to just do this over his home network. I can do everything manually if necessary but it would be nice if these two programs actually work.

As a followup I attempted to use the Microsoft tools for migrating user accounts, files and software and for the most part they just didn't work. Even directly connected via a crossover cable I encountered numerous hangs and permissions errors. Eventually I just gave up and did it the old fashioned way which worked out well. :p
