Very annoying. I just installed Vista and there's no sound. I've got the onboard AC97 situation, and I've downloaded the latest drivers from Realtek. All the updates have been installed. I've googled this as much as I can, and it was a drivers issue for most people. The curveball here is that the volume icon in the system tray shows that sound is being output... and yes, I've tried all the jacks. Any ideas?

Just trying to give you a list of things to try:

1. You're sure that you have AC'97, not hi-def audio, and you installed the AC'97 drivers, not the hi-def drivers. I've done this before and it didn't complain, just no sounds till I realized that I had the wrong drivers.

2. Try some headphones in a headphone jack if you're sure you have the right drivers installed.

I am certain that I have the correct drivers installed. Also, I have tried multiple headphones in each jack. This is really bizzare. It's not an issue of hardware damage either because I've reinstalled XP just to make sure and it works fine.
