I've been reading that the 3870 and the 4870 have the exact same layout heatsink wise. My 4870 should be here next week and I want to watercool this badboy. I have not seen any waterblocks that officially state they are for the 4870 but would this block fit since it's for the 3870?

Waterblock

Spank you! I want to get this all installed before QuakeCON!

I think MCR60 will fit if you don't care it is not FC.
You have to wait few more weeks for a dedicated block, 48xx is just became available. It's to recent for block makers to come up a new design for it.

I have a water block right now that I think will work, probably the one you mentioned. It's not a full card block though. Will running the ram without cooling end up frying them? I do want a full card block but if I can get by with my current block without frying the ram then I will do that. What do you think?!

Aquaextreme MP-01 just mounted and leak tested. Idle 29, load 34. ;)

I know the maze 4 works on the 4850. Seeing as the maze4 is discontinued i ordered 2 maze 5's for my crossfire setup. Should be here tommorow.

And yes, you'll need to put some sinks on the ram/vrms if you just run a gpu block.
