Hey guys,

I'm connecting an older IDE drive I have that's been very reliable to backup some important info. Here's the weird problem, the drive will write extremely fast from SATA drives, roughly ~60MB/s which is pretty good I think for something this old. Now when I try to write the info back onto the drive it's a max of 3.2MB/s and drops down to 1.3MB/s. I've checked the IDE cable, it's brand new, checked the jumpers and it's set to Master. There are no slave drives on the chain.

The drive passes all WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong with it?

I'd appreciate the help.

Most IDE Western Digital drives have three jumper positions:

1. Master drive with a slave
2. Slave drive
3. Master drive without a slave

If you don't have a slave drive, the jumper should be configured for #3, which IIRC, means no jumpers across the contacts.
