nice, but not as fast. The WD 640Gb has only two(2) 320gb high density platters.
This means that the drive has alot less surface area to allocate data from. The
WD 640Gb AAKS drive is one of the only drives that can compete with the
Raptor line of harddrives because of its speed at accessing stored data.

call me crazy, but I just did RAID 0 with 3 of these on a 3ware 9650SE and I can't describe how fast the system is. Probably I should get one more and go RAID 10.

EDIT: the three of these are quieter than my 2 seagate 160's.

RAID 5 if it's true hardware. RAID 0 if it's an on-board raid controller.

I would have a decent back-up plan if you run RAID from an on-board controller.

My ICH9 array has been fine for months, but I still don't trust it as much as I would a true hardware solution.

Thanks for the link! I ended up purchasing two. One to replace my 6 year old server os drive (couldn't justify doubling the cost for a velociraptor) and another to replace my 400gb re2 as my main computer's drive.
