Western Digital 640GBAAKS for $75 shipped @newegg

we at hardocp speak english. not internet slang. what you meant to say is "Link". :)

Nice, and free shipping too. I have for of these for my WHS, they're great drives.

damn it. I have been thinking of going to a raid 0 too

There's now a black edition 640mb w/ 32mb of cache
and a green edition of the 64mb.

You mean GB, unless you just woke up from a coma :D
I can't find any mention of the 640gb WD black, are you sure you're not mistaking it for the Seagate 640gb 32mb cache?

80 dollars now, still not bad. To RAID or not to RAID, that is the question.

Got mine and the boot up time is no joke :D Dunno how to look for the other stuff though, can't really "feel" it..

call me crazy, but I just did RAID 0 with 3 of these on a 3ware 9650SE and I can't describe how fast the system is. Probably I should get one more and go RAID 10.

EDIT: the three of these are quieter than my 2 seagate 160's.

my question is raid 5 or raid 0

RAID 5 if it's true hardware. RAID 0 if it's an on-board raid controller.

I would have a decent back-up plan if you run RAID from an on-board controller.

My ICH9 array has been fine for months, but I still don't trust it as much as I would a true hardware solution.

picked one up and just got it a couple minutes ago, not from egg though :(

From Mwave too... pretty sweet :)

I may grab a couple more... could do Raid5 with 4 of these D=?

I've always been skeptical about booting to a Raid5 Array though...

I saw those, but I thought the cashback was down to 20% now. At least that's what it's been showing for me the past couple of days.

How do you do cash back and is it instant rebate or more like mail in rebate?

Neither. You pay the full amount up front and Microsoft gives you the cash back in 60 days...you can elect to receive a PayPal payment, direct deposit, or a check.

I'm loving these drives sofar... I ordered three of them but can only fit two in my case. :(

Believe it or not these things seem faster than the 500GB Seagate 7200.11 drives that they replaced!

I'm confused, why is this WD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218 is better than this Seagate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148288 some of you mentioned the single versus douple plater but I dont get it, the specs are the same cept for the cashe, can somebody go into more details??
