Hey all!

Best Buy has the 42" 1080P Westy TX-42F430S for $996 this week and with the HDTV deal you can get it for $699..

How does that model stack up against the 37W3 as a monitor or TV?

Thanks!

no replies? doh

any suggestions? would a integrated laptop GPU be able to power a 42" 1080p screen?

not if you want to game, but as far as running the monitor, it should, as long as it has the necessary output port.

dont expect to play games with integrated graphics tho, esp on a monitor of that resolution

thanks for the reply!

yea, i wouldn't expect to game on the big monitor... i can manage some older games on the laptop itself though :D

I played CS source on my TX42 using a radeon 2400 pro (passively cooled) for both audio and video at 1920x1200. Framerate was bad, low 30's to mid teens, but nothing i could notice wrong with the TV itself.

Just a note, for ATI cards you can adjust so that there's no Overscan/underscan for this monitor through ATI Catalyst Control Panel. If you are using nVidia or Intel, you mileage may vary.

For VGA, the TX42 has problems with 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1360x768.
Timing issues. I did not investigate.

The only rez that played nice over VGA was 1920x1200 (native) and 800x600. (and 640x480 which I assume the POST screen is)

The HDMI inputs (there are 4 of them, lol!) however, is perfect for all resolutions.

what deal are you talking about??? i'm about to pull the trigger on this tv and the best deal i can put together is $996 - 12% RZ coupon = $878.

eh, it's over at Slickdeals at this post --> BB HDA Slickdeal

i dont agree with all of it, but i have no problem canceling the HDDTV stuff.

also, next week BB is going to have the 47" Westy on sale for $1299... meaning you could get that for $999 if you did the $300 off

thanks for the link and info on the 47" Westy IceWeasel! Not sure if i'll attempt something like this, but it's good to know my options.
