What 2 & 2.1 speaker sets rank top notch?

Spaceman is the same guy who *claimed* he compared a $120 receiver with a $500 receiver, a $1100 receiver, and a receiver from 1996

If you want to stick with the assumption that quality is linear with $$ spent, there are plenty of companies that will be perfectly happy with that thinking.

Thank you!

Remember that I am here to help AND to learn.

astrallite, you know more than I do so please stop treating me as if I think that I know more than you. you know that I know that you know more so be cool with me please. :p

The T40s do suck compared to the Swans

No argument. And the Swans do suck compared to my speakers. See, now it's a trip down memory lane.

and I do like the Sherwood for my current stereo setup b/c with what I am driving for my tv (those little xbox mirage nano-sats and a self powered sub) there is no difference except for price. If I went multi-channel and a bigger room needing more power then sure a better receiver is a good idea. Common sense.

See, this is what I'm talking about, changing the subject. You said you had compared them all, so I'm questioning why you would compare products from different price ranges? Since you are on a budget, I would imagine...comparing products in the same price bracket would make more sense. The products you were comparing were also considered among the best at their price points, so basically you were in effect saying the Sherwood was worth $1000, which I find disingenuous without providing more in-depth info beyond "my stuff blows others away, believe me."

Bring some more to the table before you try me astrallite. That was completely weak! If you want an argument start a thread and air it all out. I will always admit when I am a dumbass. No problem there. Happens often enough lol.

We'll get shut down.

I don't believe quality is linear with money spent, price to quality is always a diminishing return, I don't don't assume nor would I ever assume, nice try though.

You can always take it to PMs.

The argument thread would get shut down because a) nobody cares and b) it's clogging up an otherwise useful forum. Maybe that means you shouldn't have it here, either.

Spaceman is pretty damned helpful, imo, so I would appreciate it if you would either get off his nuts or at least take it to PMs where I don't have to read this crap when I'm trying to research 2.1 systems.

Thanks.

Yeah really. Ok, so next post needs to be from the op or someone answering or helping the op.

Last I saw, he had some Edifiers on order. I'm not sure there's anything left to answer here unless he posts back again?

You're pretty new to PC audio forums i take it? Otherwise you're probably forgetting that this is standard fare in all PC audio forums, including this one. Notice there are no mods intervening?

These quote on quote "arguments" i find useful because this is where people often reveal tons of information. I'm not sure if this thread qualifies but some of the most useful info i've found were in threads with heated exchanges.

Besides we're all adults here (or close to it i hope), and the participants don't seem very bothered by it :p

Carry on i say, especially if there's some good info to be shared ;)

I love the part where it says "Junkie" by your name, and yet you're calling this an audio forum. :D

There's a reason it's way at the bottom next to Apple and standard fare is Logitech and Klipsch. But maybe we can help out with that a little.

Anyway...topic is long gone.

just got my fingers crossed, package coming from canadian air to hawaii. Man i heard in canada they got those edifiers is freaking walmart! WTF! either walmart be steppin it up or something is up here jk:D

i'm so damn itching to get a pair of those A2 audioengines too

will keep all posted once products come in, thanks to all

Heh I wish they had the Edifiers in Walmart or even any store here... I can't find the Edifiers at all in Toronto.

Edifiers came back in stock at NCIX and I pulled the trigger. Shipping cost me 31 to the US and I should expect them by next Friday at the earliest. My city is a little chaotic right now with Hurricane Ike... =)

What's the verdict?

f***n ncix shipping is god damn terrible. i pay almost $70 for shipping to get em here safely to hawaii, the damn retail box the edifiers are in, are the way ncix ships them. un-fuggin believable. Ncix just puts a shipping label on this retail box and kicks em out they door. The edifier box comes to my door so damn beat up, if you look at the box's condition, its like some just rolled it down the mountain and arrived at my doorstep  x10

i would think ncix would put the edifier retail box in another box for extra protection and stuff, but no, THEY SUCK

I hope you peeps in mainland USA have better luck than me

if it wasn't for ncix poor terrible shipping i would have rated the speakers a near perfect 10! after opening up and closely examining all the speakers, subs, only to fine one of my separates have a nice littel piece of plastic cracked off one of the speakers corners
oh yeah alot, i mean alot of damn dust inside the box everywhere, must be from the shipping and only retail box the speakers came in

ok, on to the good news, these speakers are smoke'n HOT! (after dusting deese ho's off) they look great and sound terrific! the mids, highs, and base pleases well enough where i'm down to download another TB of pron now :D!

btw, the sub the edifiers come with is pretty damn big n heavy, but still manageable to be on the desktop though. the audio inputs cables are kinda of short, which gave me no choice but to keep it on my desk. the other cables are passable long enough. The audio-volume controller in PIMP. I don't know how sturdy it is, so gotta be gentle when adjusting the volume.

Man i sure hope there is another place to get these edifiers cause the way ncix ships is a damn gamble. I know newegg has their moments but ncix takes the win here for crappy shipping

i will try to post a pic of my setup, laterz peeps

Well, more properly, isn't shipping to Hawaii just crap across the board? The mass on those speakers can't help either...I was looking at some for CONUS shipping earlier, and it was going to be $90!

Glad you like 'em. :D

Sorry to hear that goldz, I chose Fedex Express Saver since it was the cheapest (31 bucks to Texas) and I've never had a problem with Fedex.

Many retailers slap a shipping label on the retail box and ship them like that if they are large and heavy, since they are essentially in shipping condition. That's how my Logitech 4.1 (the old school model, pre z5500) set up arrived, that's how my BenQ 24" arrived, and my Lanbox case arrived. Fortunately, none of them were damaged but the thing that does worry me is that if the carrier leaves the box at my doorstep, it is obvious what the package is and may be tempting to steal.

I am glad you like the sound of them. Did you purchase the insurance with the express RMA option? It was like three bucks for me. If you didn't, I guess it wouldn't be worth spending another ~70 to send them back.

/\ /\

i did purchase that RMA option, but if have to return them and pay another & 70 bones for shipping, i'm will say fudge it and get some good old "made in the USA" speakers.

man the padding in the edifier box sucks money balls, the two separates are right on top right under the box lid with NO PADDING, no joke. if there would have been some styro-foam or some other cushioning, it would be all good. so just beware of that. I have had other items that came in retail boxes with mad styro-foam padding/other types of impact reduction setups, but this edifier box is like a damn cereal box!

man shipping to hawaii isn't that bad, everything comes by air and in a fews days or so. I have never, i mean never had a item that came to my doorstep in a "world war II" salvaged condition, still everytime i look at the box, UNBELIEVABLE! those canadian postal guys must have sat on it, play a few poker games on it, and bowled it down memory lane a few times before sending it off :(

too bad newegg don't carry this item

sorry guys enough of me ranting, but the these edifiers are kick butt speakers! just gotta see how long they last now :D

Well, mine are scheduled to arrive this Thursday via Fedex. I hope they arrive safely ;)

as of late my edifiers are holding up well. FO shizzles got clean separation on the highs, mids, and lows.

impressed so far. maybe that blue led around the volume control gotsta go though, its a little too ricey for me :D

As much as this thread has derailed I find it actually helpful with tons of information for audiophile n00bs like me. Spaceman and all the others know their shit. Glad you like those edifiers Goldznnz I think I may grab a pair for my gaming rig and move my main audio stuff to htcp duty. Yes they do look bling.

Blue LEDs are pretty nice until you realize that 1) it's not going to match any of the other LEDs in the room, and 2) it's pointed right into your eye and extremely bright. But nothing a soldering iron can't fix. Either swap it out for green/red, or slap a resistor in line to dim it a bit. A few kΩs usually does the trick.

/\ /\ good idea about turn/dimming down that blue led. hard to really enjoy 2am pron when you got a "five O cop light" in yo face :D

I would have to say that goldznnz has a porn addiction.

At least my speakers come tomorrow :D

Well, they arrived today. I was a little worried when I saw the box because it looked a little roughed up. Once I opened the box I understood why the box was so easily beat up, there is no styrofoam inside for padding.

I took some photos of the box and of the unveiling. Excuse my mess, I am still organizing my crap - I had boxed a lot of stuff for hurricane Ike.

They sound great to me. The clarity is there and the sub woofer, I feel, provides enough punch, considering the whole set is rated at 72W ( I think). I can turn them up pretty loud and they do not distort.

I put the photos into a gallery so that they wouldn't interfere with the thread.

I will send an email to NCIX to let them know the packaging in the retail box is not enough to ship as is. They should have at least an option to double box the package, even at extra cost. Fortunately, nothing was damaged and everything works ok. I love the volume knob.

/\ /\ you like 'em dawg!

man your edifier box looks pristine compared to mines, the sub is protected ok in there, but having the separates on top right under the lid is dangerous.

suprising @72 watts this 2.1 set is nice crisp and clear
wonder if "we" can put pressure on newegg to support these:D

I'm very happy with my Audioengine 5's.

Leaning towards those myself, or Swan M200mkIIs. That, or if I decide to open up the budget a bit I may go with Usher S-520s.

*sigh* Too many sexy speakers...not enough bloody money!

-S

Any good 2.1 speakers with a headphone input from Guitar Center? No need for a subwoofer as I don't think I'll need the extra bass unless the speakers are weak in that aspect.

I just ordered the Edifier S330D 2.1 Speaker Set from NCIX, I look forward to the sound!

Thanks for this thread!

Nice, let me know if you have any questions. Keep in mind the audioengine 5's are kind of large if you're used to traditional computer speakers. Otherwise, I'm loving them for my music - ranges from electronica to hip hop to jazz.

Alright need some speakers for PS3 use only. I was thinking about getting the M-Audio AV40 or the Logitechs Z2300. Any other recommendations? I can't order online...

Which is better, Behringer MS40, M Audio AV40, or Edifier S330D?

That will be without buying a soundcard or receiver or subwoofer. So onboard sound and without subwoofers (Edifier S330D comes with sub, so it might sound better than the others?).

Probably the Edifier. Not the M-Audio. they are not digital speakers. You need a sound card for those to sound decent.

just an update as of 9/29/08. i have gone through 2 sets of these edifiers with the same chronic problem of having no volume or sudden dropping of volume from left channel on the edifier sub/amp.

maybe this is a fluke and just a production line defect... ...
anyone else having badluck here?

waiting on 3rd set to arrive. will post results shortly after
