Thanks to many people's recommendation from various forums, I'm planning to get the Megahalems for my new system. I just wanna know what fans do you use with your Megahalems?

Can't go wrong with a GT 1850. What are you looking for though? Performance, silence, combination of the two?

I have the new Cooler Master Excalibur Fans with my Mega Shadow. In a review, they beat out the Gentle Typhoons in performance. About 2-3 degrees cooler.
The GT's are better overall fans because of low noise but I wanted to give these a try. I bought mine from Buy.com and just received them today. When I get the rest of my parts on Friday, I will post temps.

I would say combination of the two.

Well if you're looking for the best combination of the two the GT1850 is what you're looking for.

Those Excalibur fans look interesting, but I really wonder just how loud they are. The one fan I'm interested in seeing is Silverstone's AP121. Supposed to be designed for higher static pressure and silence, ala Gentle Typhoon.

Every fan recommendation thread I see on here has people raving about gentle typhoons. I running 2x San Ace right now, and they sound like a jet engine. I would like to replace my Aces, but every time I look at pics of the Gentle Typhoons, they look like child's toys with their ugly gray alternate fan design. Are these fans really performing as well as everyone is raving?

Yes, I'll dig up numbers later when I get home. They almost perform as well as my Panaflo L1A, while being quieter.

Good choice. I've got a GT 1850 serving as front intake, hooked up to a fan controller. At about 75-85% you really can't hear them. They're not much for looks but since its stuck behind a fan grill, nobody's going to see it anyways.
I've got a case window so I went for slightly flashier fans on my cpu. ^_^ Enermax Cluster 120mm.

overclock.net was down yesterday for a few hours, is up now. I also use the San Aces on the megahalem really barely any differences if you use 1 or 2 San Aces.

love that thread. the YL can be a crap shoot from what I hear, but at the price you can afford to get a couple of bad eggs.

Since I wanted to use all my RAM slots on my motherboard, I had to install two 120 x 20 mm fans from Yate Loon. The fans seem to be working well with the heatsink.

I think silentx makes a great fan for this:

Here's a review:

It does quite well, but the GT 15 is slightly better and the scythe ultra craze right behind it.

I guess the blade design is better on those models, I noticed the GT has these little notches on the blades to create more turbulent air flow which is effective in convection than laminar. If only they made a fan with the GT blades at 38mm thick, that would be best

There's 20mm fans? hmm...I'll have to look into that.

I've got an 1850rpm GT and I had to remove the RAM sink off the first stick of memory so that the fan wouldn't protrude too far out so I could get my side panel back on.

Do you have the specs (or model #) for the 20mm fan?

I use a single GT 1150 now. Huge improvement from stock i7 965 heatsink and fan, both in noise and temperatures.

If some of you have a case with a top exhaust fan, couldn't you just as easily orientate the Megahalems north/south? Then you should have less issues with RAM space. I have a Cosmos S, and had to cut the frame of the huge side fan in the case so that the Megahalems and GT 1150 would fit. The heatsink is north/south so I can get at my RAM easily. Also helped because that way I had to cut less of the 200mm case fan frame.

I got the fans here: http://www.coolerguys.com/840556087779.html

Here are the specs from the link:

Model: D12SM-12C
Dimensions: 120x120x20mm
Rated Voltage: 12 Volts
Operation Voltage: 6.5~13.8 Volts
Input current: 0.30 Amp Max
Operation temperature: -10 to +65 C
Storage temperature: -40 to +70 C
RPM: 1800 +/- 10%
CFM: 62.5
dB: 28.8

There are 15mm fans but these 20mm are the thinnest I have found with the best CFM. I had to shave ~2mm from the fan by the RAM to make it fit touching the RAM heatsink a little. East West orientation of the heatsink with fans was the only way for me to use the G.Skill Pi series RAM with heatsinks.

I'm also thinking about doing a push/pull with my Megahalem and wanted to upgrade my Scythe S-Flex and was wondering which of the two is better for performance and noise: Gentle Typhoon 1850 which was already mentioned and the Cooler Master R4 (2000RPM) [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=cooler_master_r4-_-35-103-060-_-Product].

One other thing, is it possible to buy the fan clips for the Megahalem from Newegg because the only place I've seen them at is FrozenCPU.

I use a Delta fan.

(Note: standard 120mm fan is now actually attached to the chassis and not on the otherside of the heatsink from the Delta fan.)

It whoops butt. The heatsink doesn't even get warmed up. Got it at 3.6GHz on a Q9450 on DDR2-1000 RAM. I'm confident that if I got DDR2-1200/1333/1600 I could get it to 4GHz easily.

good question about the cooler master R4, I can't find any good reviews, but I guarantee it can only be slightly better than the GT if at all.

Lol! So you can "guarantee" it's better than a GT1850 if it is better at all? Talk about contradicting statements.

When I had my Megahalem I used a CM R4 and a Ultra Kaze 2k rpm for push/pull, got the job done.
