Doing a quick cheap fix on a friends computer and the gpu fan is buzzing. Usually I would use engine oil and that has worked nicely for me in the past, but I don't have any right now. Can sunflower oil or WD40 do the job? (those are the only things I have handy atm)

Nevermind, I found a bottle of motorcycle oil conveniently hidden below the sink..

to still answer the question, me personally i would stay away from WD40 as a fan lubricant as it has certain detergents and other properties that "degrease". therefore, whatever WAS left in the bearing before you doused it in WD40 will now happily leave said bearing with its new friend WD. :p

i would imagine non detergent air compressor oil or sewing machine oil would do well in a high duty cycle bearing such as a fan.

I've used electronic contact cleaner in the past without any problems.
