What resolution?

I know this might sound like a silly question, and I didn't know which forum to post it in, but here goes:

Would my rig (P4 [email protected], 6800GT, 1 gig ram) run most new games at 1600x1200? Reason I'm asking is that my current screen doesn't support that resolution, and the monitor I'm looking to buy (LCD) has that resolution natively. 1280x1024 is no problem at all for me, so how much a step would 1600x1200 be?
 
Before my video card upgrade, I had a p4 3.0, 1 gig ram, 9800 pro, and I ran hl2@1600x1200 no problem, but I had to have some options turned down and no fsaa. EQ2 woudlnt run smoothly though. Now with my x800pro it runs AWESOME
 
Great, thanks! Found a decent price for a Dell 2001FP, so gonna go for that as well.. Soon there'll be no money left to buy x-mas gifts :)
 
You can be able to run most games at 1600x1200 without too much slowdown. Just play with the eyecandy options until the speed is ok.
