When will the 9800 GTX (NVIDIA) cards be out? 8800s sound incredible, but I think I will be ready when the next gen is out.

lol jesus you are demanding

i would guess the 9800s will be based on the 8800s but beefed up (like NV40->G70) so probably 1-1.5 years, maybe longer though, likely not shorter

I was thinking that since it would be a "beefed up" 88xx there would be a faster turnaround on the 98xx's time, so more like a .8 - 1.1 years realease time from now.

err hoping anyways.

Usually the revised edition (or refresh) of the current gen cards comes in about 6-9 months, and those would (going on the last generation's scheme) be called the 8900s. Just like the 78->79 series jump. Expect another 6-9 months waiting for the whole new next gen.

Only a computer geek would measure a year in tenths :)

.8 to 1.1 years lol

the 9 series will take at least 1.5 years...

i have a feeling that the 8 series has some serious longevity in it...

Yeah, I'm hoping your meaning 8900, not 9800. Cause it took well over a year from 7800 to the 8800 launch, and likewise with 6800 to 7800. If you mean the 'refresh', and 8900s, probably 6 months to a year.

Yea, I don't think I'm going to upgrade till 2008, I figure by then I'll have a fair bit of money to throw around.

Nvidia usually takes just over a year to develop the next gen GPU. However I think the forward looking design of DX10 will see this generation through for a lot longer, especially with multi-core optimisations and GPU physics coming.

I'd say a refresh in 6 months and then the GF 9 series a year after that, perhaps with GX2 or tri-SLI stuff in the interim.

I think it would be hilarious if Nvidia released them as the 9800 Pro and XT instead of GTS and GTX.

geforce 4 june-nov of 08'
however look out for refreshes and lower end 8 series to come out like a gs model and maybe
an 8850 of some sort.

the refresh would most likely be an 8900 GTX or 8850 GX2? or 8800GX2 :p imagine that beast

9800GTX would be next gen

5800->5900->5950
6800- ?
7800-7900-7950
8800-8900?

I hope they don't call it 9800. We already had an ATI Radeon 9800, that's confusing.

It will be the Geforce 9GTX

They have run out of other numbers

We had geforce 2 mx/gts, might as well go back :D

Don't you mean the GeForce XP? Or would it be something else...GeForce Ultimate Edition? Home Premium? Everything started being called XP this and XP that when WinXP came out, they'll have to adopt the various Windows Vista monikers now...

Never. They'll call it something stupid like the V series (the V built this haus!™), and we'll call it the Pee series, cause the ATI cards will do something crazy....like shoot neon gas out onto our cpu, cooling it. So we'll all convert to ATI, but then they'll be bought out by ULi, cause ULi will pwn everyone in the future.

bzzzzzzzzzzzt

maybe they'll just call it something completely different.... like, they had the Riva series, the Riva TNT series, the TNT2 series, and the the geForce..... maybe they'll call it the "nVidia Hyperwarp-512" or something and it will have a 512-bit memory bus, who knows?

I sticky this thread! :p but, yeah it would be interesting to the new line up

(and I'll be first in line. lol!)

QFT ^^^ I think for the Geforce 9 series they should go back to the Old Naming Convention of Geforce 4

Have Geforce 9 Ti 9200 Ti 9400 Ti 9600 and Ti Ultra Mega GTS Pro Eddition ;)

ULi was absorbed by NVIDIA
:p

bzzzzzzzt

*warps back*

That is, of course, after ULi breaks away from nVidia after a balogna dispute in company refridgerators.

bye!

*weeeeeeeee*

that is not the question to ask. The question is "should we wait for the 8900GTX?" or "should we buy the 8800GTX now?"

always ALWAYS wait for the next generation, you will save soooo much money by never actually building your system!

I think the REAL question is will a 8800GTxx run Crysis @ max detail w/ 1600x1200 rez +2xAA / 8xAF and never drop to less than 29 FPS ... ever. I'm thinking no.

Anybody else feel that the whole GeForce naming scheme is bit lame? These guys should change their card names bit more often. How many years have we had gayforces and Rodeos?

I don't think they'll be changing it if people are still buying them by the bucketload

A rose by any other name...

gayforce and rodeo? jesus christ...

the idea of keeping with the same name is because of brand recognition. people have an idea of what the product is, what it's purpose is, and so on.

Well, I did get confused for a sec when people started talking about "Intel 6800s," but then I figured it out. And by the time you get to the point where you'd need the "GeForce 9800," the Radeon 9800Pro will be long dead and reglected to the scrap heap. 9800Pro cards barely compete now, they're low-end at best. Let alone two years from now...

Now NVIDIA's marketing department needs to do some serious work. :p

Geforce Viagra 1.0 Limited Edition Pro 2010.

I'm still saying that they're gonna call it the V series...

And they'll start at 3000....

So it'll be the nVidia V3600 Vulnavia and the nVidia V3600 Dr. Phibes......

I got it marked on my calander let me check.
Uhm it will be out September 14 2007 at 8am.
