To get the most accurate temperature reading?
The hard drive is easy, but i have no idea where to place the cpu heat sensor.
I have a Zalman 7000 which makes it even more difficult to find a spot.
in older CPUs you affix it under the CPU, now with the "lets cover the earth with pins" CPUs I had to tape the sensor to the bottom of the heatsink, as near to the TIM print as practical (about a 1/8" away) Still reads low though.
I put mine next to the cpu metal die, but it was still off by about 20 C.
I've read folks putting the flat part between the heatsink and cpu, but that just strikes me as a bad idea breaking the physical connection.
I stuck mine betwwen 2 of the fins on the Zalman 7000 as close to the bottomn as I could, I also tried placeing it next to the heatspreader but it dont make good contact there. It is only about 2-3c off from what the onboard sensor tells me.
