This might have been asked before but here goes anyway

Soon I'll be moving and I'm going to buy new pc and ps3.( will open pc thread later)

Now problem is I can't buy nice TV so I have to use monitor for both PC and PS3.

I think 24" is my best choice. It support 1080p and anything bigger would screw image more with ps3.

But I don't know which monitor to pick. I've researched and googled a lot but I just can't decide. Monitor must have HDMI or DVI port, NO input lag, low response time(below 6ms), higher the contrast better and 1:1 scaling.

I heard some monitors get black screen of death(QQ) and then it doesn't work, on some image get stretched or screwed up, I don't want that.

Anyone got some monitor to recommend? I thought BenQ G2400WD would be my best pick but I've read some not so encouraging this on topic about it.

Moving in 9 days.

Edit: I read BenQ G2400W thread from first page now and it sounds like great choice( again) so its my #1 choice if I don't find anything else.

Any difference between G2400W and one with D ?

If you can accept TN, G2400WD and V2400W can be good choices for you. They use the same panel(I believe I read this many times in many reviews here )
G2400WD is different from G2400W by adding dynamic contrast ratio feature (4000:1) and with faster response time: G2400W 5ms vs. G2400WD 2ms
Between G2400WD and G2400W go get a G2400WD. Better specs.
You can get it from BenQ store directly. I got my V2400W from there. Use thankyou10 promo code to save extra 10%.

Thanks :)

It's my first choice so far unless someone shows me better one.

Googleing now to see difference between g2400wd and v2400w

Also another question:

I see lot of people here are using monitor with ps3 so I was wondering what do you use for sound? Many(most?) monitors don't have built in speakers so I was looking to buy new one for pc and ps3. I found ones i like (2.1) so was wondering is this all I need http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Plug-Dual-Adapter/dp/B0002KR5Q0 ? Plug cables that came with ps3 in that and thats it ?

Also on speakers I have these 2 jacks http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/productimage/36-119-008-10.jpg one for headphones and other for?

So the BenQ G2400WD is without a doubt better than the Dell 2408WFP ?
I'm also wanting a 24".

Actually, can someone with crazy LCD experience tell me what they believe the top three 24" LCD's are that are out right now ?

thanks

Sorry for the highjack but the OP may want to hear it as well. Otherwise this BenQ G2400WD looks pretty good.

Thanks :)

Both the G2400WD and V2400W have a headphone jack for audio transmitted through hdmi. So if you use hdmi with your gaming console then you can plug your headphones right into the monitor, or use an audio cable to plug the headphone jack of the monitor to an auxiliary jack in a speaker.

By the way, I have a G2400WD and highly recommend it.

I wanted to get 2408 but damn that thing got huge input lag... I wouldn't be able to play like that so threw it out of picture.

Yeah I saw headphones jack but I want to use normal speakers.

+ doctor recommended me not to use headphones >.>

And that cable you mentioned, any idea for name so I can google it?

Nolimit: The headphone cable you have listed there is fine to connect directly to PS3. You can also theoretically use the headphone jack on the G2400WD as a headphone out when you don't want to wake the neighbors :)

The-One:

I don't think there is one top LCD for everything.

It all depends on your priorities. A photographer wants color accuracy and minimal color shifting at angles, while a gamer wants low input lag and low response time.

The Dell 2408WFP is a very nice monitor. It has tons of features, but for game players (especially the hardcore ones) it's not a top choice. Input lag is excessive at this time.

Apparently, according to a "peripherals specialist" at Dell named Jimmy_P, the new revision of the 2408WFP with reduced input lag and a number of enhancements will be available in approximately two weeks. Might be worth waiting for.

So for hardcore game playing, the G2400WD is definitely a better choice. Wait three weeks and the answer may change.

What about the FP241VW? That's the one I plan on getting in about a month or so.

Dont get it, its the worst monitor ever, get the G2400W or V2400W

Why is that? All I've heard about it is good, meanwhile the ones you mention are TN, which from what I'v heard have viewing angle problems even when viewed in an ideal position, since they are 24" (please correct if this is wrong).

Anyway I'm curious because I was thinking about buying it or a FP241W, because of its fast response time and good vertical viewing angles.

What's this lag thing about the 2408wfp? Is it actually noticeable?

Well, unless I missed something, you didn't mention anything about the price...
If price is a concern, I think you've been well advised, if not, I think you should have a look at the EIZO 2442W. There are still no European reviews, but I've been reading quite a lot about its Japanese version (HD2452W); the difference is only that the 52W has a Japan-only TV connector.

In fact, the 2442W itself is mostly a 2441W remake, almost identical from the outside, but solving the few problems the old version had, and adding some welcomed new touches for a multi-media monitor.

I've spent about 1 month to decide on my own 24" (which is likely to be a LCD2490WUXi), and I haven't seen anything better for your requirements.

Despite its big price tag, the monitor is the top5 selling one in the all-popular Kakaku.com (Japanese price-watch website) for a reason, and so far the community agrees that it may be the best all-around multimedia screen (fyi, the G2400WD is actually second-best selling one).

Here is what you get when compared with the lower-priced TN's you're considering:
- PVA panel in an EIZO, which may not be IPS, but compared with a TN it still provide way better viewing angles (don't you ever play PS3 with other people?, watch DVD movies?), best contrast (specially good for games & video), and (according to Prad.de's 2441W review) colors that would nearly please a graphic artist.
- 1 frame input lag for games (with "trhu mode" activated) and a decent overdrive, which is among the best, if not the best, of the industry (here is a video comparison with the "old" 2441W)
- A full array of inputs and scaling/interpolation options, although PiP support in Eizo isn't still the greatest (no size-change available; 4 fixed positions).
- A remote controller, that can be handy if you use it with several sources plugged at the same time (PC, PS3, TV-box_overHDMI, etc.)
- Built-in way for speakers, routing your PC/HDMI/RCA sound directly to one single output.
- AV-mode with 50Hz or 60Hz (no judgering when wathing videos), and real 1080/24p video mode for watching BD's in your PS3 (like the latest high-end TV's do).
- 5 year warranty.

I don't know the price in Europe/US, but it has to be expensive for sure (Eizo's always are), now, if you have the money, I don't think you'll find anything better to play around with PC+PS3+TV_box, etc.

Hope that helped.

I don't think anyone wants to pay $1000+ on 24" monitor o_O

And that NEC monitor of yours, 16ms response time, 800:1 contrast :s

Dunno, I'll stick with BenQ if I don't find anything better, which I doubt...

What are you guys talking about? I'm using a FP241W right now, and it's the best 24" I've used. Especially due to the low input lag.

Obviously, I'm not buying mine thinking on gaming / plugging a PS3, otherwise I would take the Eizo. Besides, there are plenty of people buying those where they are available (just like Eizo's), and wishing they were available where they are not (Europe), because there are plenty of people willing to pay for quality.

In my case, excellent image quality was a top priority, and that's why I'm going to take the Nec. If you have any other suggestions I'm all open to hear them.
That said, if you are dismissing a monitor because of a couple of catalog numbers (stated contrast & time response), then certainly you don't care so much about what you're buying. Take the Benq, you'll be happy with it.

In any case, you didn't mention price was an issue, and you were asking for advice. Sorry if mine was of no use to you.

I'm pretty happy with my BenQ FP241VW.

For it's price range it's one of the better ones nowadays. Low input lag (I measured 8.65ms average at 1920x1200/1920x1080) and it's a fairly vibrant panel with very little of that graininess that plagues a lot of the newer anti-glare equipped screens.

Early models had issues, but if an FP241W/FP241VW is available with a build date of June 2007 or later, it is still very competitive in every category.

Colors need tweaking/profiling, but only with DVI. HDMI and component the colors are fairly accurate, as well as VGA.

Response time is fairly good too with no reverse ghosting and other than some dark to dark transition slowness (typical of VA panels), very good for an A-MVA panel.

Also the as mentioned June 2007 models have the benefit of allowing full aspect ratio and overscan controls for HD sources, unique in this category.

Lobski, I'm glad you like it even though it's a bit small from what you've posted recently.

What are you guys talking about? I'm using a FP241W right now, and it's the best 24" I've used. Especially due to the low input lag.

What's your budget? NEC is king of the hill right now but you are paying an arm and a leg for it. Anything below that is a question of what compromises better fit the amount you are willing to spend.

Well above 1000$+ isn't in my budget I guess.
And I'm not just lookinng numbers, I read that huge thread about that benq here and it seems great for things I need it.

Which NEC?

P.S. On every forum people are telling me benq is crap and get some other monitor but nobody says which :(

You know what? Try BenQ G2400W or G2400WD. I have one borrowed at home now. I don't like it more than my NEC 2690, but it looks pretty good, especially for the price. I'd not hesitate to buy it for my girlfriend (if she ever wants it, she is pratty happy with her 19" BenQ :) )
I don't know the V version, but the control of G's OSD is not the best, I mean the buttons. Maybe V is better.

How much is 2490 and where can I get it ?

But still, just answer this question:

Name 3 best monitors for PC+PS3.
Up to 1000$.

Who's saying Benq is crap? I don't think they know what they are talking about
I happen to like my Benq V2400W, a lot more than I liked my Samsung 206BW.

Just hooked up my BenQ G2400WD ($360 shipped from Newegg) about 15 minutes ago and it's pretty cool. I'm coming from a Samsung 206BW, which I'm hoping to pawn off on a family member. :D

- No dead or stuck pixels that I've seen, although a few specs of dust gave me a scare while using Dead Pixel Buddy. My prior monitor, a Samsung 206bw didn't have any pixel defects either, but I figured with 2.3 million pixels, the odds would be working against me.

- I like how plain the casing is, although part of me wishes they went even further, omitting the HDMI in the upper right and Senseye (whatever that is) in the lower right. Other things I appeciate compared to the Samsung...

green light > blue light
matte casing > glossy casing
solid black bezel > black/silver bezel
rectangular base > round base
square top > rounded top (webcam mounts better)

- The default profile seems good, whereas the Samsung had a heavy blue tint that I countered with an ICM profile.

- Looks great with Team Fortress 2, can't say I noticed any ghosting or lag.

- A dark room with a black screen reveals some light bleed along the edges, but not enough to bother me.

- Viewing angles seem fine to me, assuming it's intended for computer usage and you're sitting right in front of it.

Overall, I'm very pleased with it, especially for $360 shipped.
