A friend of mine is looking to buy a 7800GT, and has mainly looked at the BFG and XFX cards. I'd research them myself, but as the card is not for me and he doesn't intend to overclock, I'd rather just get your opinions.

What's your best pick for performance and price, preferably with low fan noise? Thanks in advance.

If you're just going for a standard clocked card, they'll all pretty much perform the same.

eVGA has what I think is the best waranty in the industry, there double lifetime warrnty. The reason I bought my 7800 GTX 512's is because they had the highest overclock out of the box.

Good hunting for your freind.

Check out evga's 7800GT CO series. The one in my sig is advertised to run at 460/1100 but I had to do a BIOS update on it and it runs flawlessly at 470/1100 stock now. Could even OC it to 485/1150 with Coolbits, but I didn't bother. Plus evga has the best warranty out there that even includes replacing the stock HSF with an aftermarket one. Oh and...they're cheap!

Thanks guys. The lifetime warranty on the evga would be good. Newegg doesn't state "CO" in the model name, but it's this model, right?

How would you say the fan noise is, preferably compared to other 7800GT's? I'm seeing mixed reviews on the noise.

You had to do a BIOS update on your video card to oc it more?

I have the basic eVGA 7800gt 445/1.07, will I need to do this to oc it more?

I have a standard 7800gt myself and it autodetects at 500/1180 but I run it at 480/1150 with the Zalman 700cu. The BIOS updates were necessary on some of the cards because of faulty clock timings to begin with and I think it had something to do with the "geometric" clocks IIRC.
