im building a new system and was wondering which card would perform better. a 6800 pci-e w/ 128mb gddr3 and 16pipes or a 6800 pci-e w/ 256mb ddr and 12 pipes. will the ram make much of a difference in terms of gaming??

wait a 6800 with 16 pipes. thats a 6800gt isnt it? id thinkt he pipes make more of a difference than the ram. plus the first one is ddr3

actually, it IS a pny 6800 on newegg. its got the gdd3 w/ 128 ram. its got a rebate goin for it right now, so i picked 2 of them up for my 2 new rigs. $164 for the card fit my budget standings, so it was either that, or a 6600gt. all the 256 ddr 6800 were just too much. already ordered them so ill see how it works out. the rigs will mostly be for folding, but the occasional home based lan game.

does it really use GDDR3 ram or is it juss a typo on the egg?

256MB DDR will seriously slow you down. Get at least 512MB, ideally 1GB.
Were talking about video cards, not system RAM. You can't get a 1GB video card, and a 256 MB video card is good.
