Friend of mine had been getting memory errors. He picked up another set of RAM, popped them in and on 3 out of 4 sticks the labels on one side of the stick were smoking.

I believe he may have been OC'd and had RAM with heatsinks.

I was wondering what you'd take as the next course. I was thinking try to boot with the old ram and undo the OC. Remove the old RAM and put in (1, 2, 4?) sticks and see if it runs hot.

OS is Vista. He's got 4 1GB ddr-2.

Anything else you might want to know?

Also, sorry if this is the wrong forum. I think I'm in the right spot.

Returned RAM to store. Only 1 gb if the old 4 is showing up.

I advised ditching the box to make hits life simpler.
