Why is this card so much more expensive?

It's probably due to the popularity of their warranty.
But it is ridiculously overpriced, there's no way to justify $259 for a 4870 512.

But the memory is clocked at 1800MHz, whereas all the other cards are at 900MHz. How would this make a difference. And what's so special about their warranty?

I'm pretty sure the card is stock 750/900.
They are probably listing that 1800 MHz as "dual pumped" or something, the actual value is 3600MHz (quad pumped). The memory speed listings on NewEgg are usually different, but represent the same value.

Visiontek has a lifetime warranty, but with a lot of restrictions.
I imagine the 4800's have a lot of greenies turning red, and most of them are used to lifetime warranties, so Visiontek would be very appealing.

edit;
They are listing the 900 MHz using the double-data rate value 1800 MHz.

Also keep in mind Newegg does use a supply/demand formula with pricing. They probably have very few of those cards in stock and will not reduce the price as it will only deplete stock. The Egg is known for doing this with certain products. This is why you see some old archaic items that sell for $1000+ or some crazy price no one would actually pay.

Someone could find that in a Google search and see "Free Stalker game" and "2x Customer Choice Awards" and buy it without researching the price as they're not as technically inclined as you or I are.

Newegg's listing of Visiontek cards has been rather...spotty for a while now.

In any case at that price there's no point in getting the Visiontek 4870 imo, an XFX 4870 would be everything the Visiontek is and more for a cheaper price.

That happens a lot sometimes with certain brands on the Egg, for no reason they'll get stuck at old pricing schemes whereas the same product from other brands will drop normally. Had you looked a couple months ago you could've found several XFX 4xxx series cards that were pretty overpriced, all of a sudden they started to come down and rebates started to appear to boot. /shrug XFX cards have a pretty good warranty too btw (VT had the sole monopoly on lifetime warrantied 4xxx's for a while, tho no more).
