Widescreens users on Digital or Analog input?

Hi all,

I'm about to buy my first LCD... and I've read that using a digital connection is superior to analog. So, looking at my 6800GT specs, it seems the max resolution on digital is 1600x1200. The eVGA version is the same, so I'm curious as to what you widescreen folks are using for graphics cards to support 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 resolutions on digital. Or are you just using analog?

As a side note, I've read enough to understand that digital has more bandwidth capability than analog, and is much clearer. Why, then, does analog go up to 2048x1536 while digital is stuck at 1600x1200 on a 6800GT ? Seems it should be the other way around

By default, the 6800 only displays resolutions supported by your current monitor. You can switch the card's settings, via a check box, so that it'll show ALL supported resolutions. 1920x1200 is definitely supported by the 6800.

May I ask what widescreen resolution you are using with your 6800's DIGITAL interface?

I emailed BFG for confirmation, and they clearly stated 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 NOT supported through DVI. I will post the email if anyone cares to see it. Thanks.

I run everything at 1920x1200 on my HP L2335...I have a 6800GT OC(Ultra speed), and everything runs beautifully...

Thanks for the info, nice to hear that res works well, I am assuming through analog? I am wondering if there are even any widescreen users with a digital cable, other than Quadros. I know asus has some sick resolutions through the dual DVI ports, but just wasnt sure how much of a mainstream thing this is. I definitely want to make use of the digital connection. Just dont understand how analog is still so popular, whats the hold up on DVI?

I use the eVGA 5900xt card using the DVI input. No problems displaying 1680 X 1080 at all.

Hi Damon, cool.. are you going DVI-->Analog (using an adaptor) or are you using Digital the whole route? Thanks!

Im running a 6800gt at 1680x1050 no probs. other than it wont let me switch too 75hz, but i had the same prob on my 9700pro, so it is probably a windowns thing.

edit: btw it is on dvi.

Thanks guys, appreciate the info. Either my BFG card is actually limited, or the tech specs are conservative for some reason. I wonder what the story is.
