Win2k/XP Exporting add/remove list to text file

I need to get an inventory of all the software installed on a few hundred machines and management doesn't want to spring for software to do it. Instead of opening add/remove programs and taking screenshots or writing everything down I was hoping theer would be a way to export that list to a text file that could be saved to a server. Anybody know how to do this?
