Win7 System Restore: Useless

So I've been going along my merry way, installing software on my new Win7 RC computer. Before any significant app, I've been manually creating system restore points, and it always says "restore point created successfully." But now I try to go back and restore my system to a previous point, and it tells me that "no restore points have been created on your computer's system drive."

Well isn't that special.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......

There are no restore points at all?
Or, there are no restore points from the time period you are interested in?

Interesting.
The only time I needed system restore on Windows 7 (RC1) it worked ok.
Thanks for the headsup, I'll keep my eye on this.

looks like the manual restore point saving isnt enabled.. just tried it on my laptop using win7 32bit.. i can see the automatic restore points.. but the manual ones dont show up..

just one of the many things you have to deal with when using a beta OS/software..

Well at least it's good to know that the problem is happening to others. (I'm not happy that others are having the problem, just happy knowing it's not something weird with my system only.)

You would think that something named Release Candidate, after going through multiple beta builds, would actually have this feature working after being pored over by a team of developers, testers and QA people, but what do I know?

I realize that this isn't the retail product yet, and that MS products almost always have bugs and problems even in their first retail incarnation, and that I guess I should just accept that some things won't work right -- but I'm getting too old for this crap.

system restore works fine for me. shows restore points back to over a month ago.
and new feature shows which programs are affected by system restore :]

I had to use restore for a borked anti-virus uninstall and restore worked as well as system restore can work.

I've got restore points going back to June 13. They will go back further if you set more disk space for them. You should have some automatic restore points unless you got it turned off or have a 0% setting.

PenaltyShot,

Hmm...because others here are also having the same problem but a solution has not yet been mentioned, you may want to approach the source directly. Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/w7itpro/ . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to ask there as well.
