I have a Windows 2003 Standard Server running hMailServer. I started with version 4.2 and had everything working fine, including webmail using SquirrelMail. I wanted better spam protection, so I upgraded to hMailServer 4.3 B248, which is the latest stable build. I went through the upgrade process completely, and by the book. I am able to send fine, but I am getting an error when receiving. Here's the error I am getting when trying to check my email using SquirrelMail, which worked fine before:

Are you scanning outbound e-mail by any chance?

No, I am not, but for some reason this just clear up. It works like a swiss watch now. Thanks for the input, Blitz.

Ah ok, just wanted to check. Gotta love the issues that seemingly resolve themselves. :)

Yes, it actually fixed itself 10 minutes or so after I posted the thread; but I forgot to come back and report. What I think happened was I was impatient. :p Maybe the server was processing it and doing Virus scans; who knows.

Moar problems.

Nothing has changed with my config, it just all of a sudden doesn't send. I never get it at my other email address. Also, I have SquirrellMail set up, and when I attempt to send I get this:

Code:
An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.
Server replied: 10053 Can't open SMTP stream.

So what is the dealio here?

Who have you allowed to relay mail? Everyone? Your subnet? Your domain? A handful of users?

This sounds a lot like a configuration issue. :)

Good luck!

Actually I hate them because they're the issues that randomly pop up at 4:40PM on Fridays and all of your users start panicking.

... and guess what? You've got no clue. Call me a control freak, but I don't like it when things just stop working randomly.

I don't see how it could be a configuration issue, because it was working just fine up until a day or two ago. What do you mean by the relay email thing?

Here's the email I get when they fail:

Code:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

   Sent: Mon, 1 Jan 2007 13:28:34 -0600
   Subject: test

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

   Error type: Winsock
Error Description: Software caused connection abort.
   Additional information: connect()

hMailServer

If you were running Exchange I could help, but I'm not familiar with hMail.

Does that product have any support forums?
