windows xp display properties single/multi monitor problem

I just acquired a cheap extra monitor from a buddy that was throwing it out and am trying to get windows to start up a multi monitor array. Simple right...

When I go in to the display properties from the desktop and then into settings I only see a picture of a single monitor. Usually there is two monitors, one in the foreground and one in the background, but I only have one. Nothing I do gets me to the point where I am presented with an extra monitor display option.

I'm running a single 7600GT with XP sp2.

Does anybody know how to force windows to show an extra monitor display in the configuration panel?
 
Plugging in the monitor before start up should give you the extra monitor graphics
 
Man why does everything work after someone tells you to do something you've already done...it works now. Thanks
