System (Dell box):

Pentium 4 3.0ghz
1 gig DDR2
80gig SATA Drive
Radeon x300 PCI-E
Windows XP SP2 Dell OEM version (fully patched using Windows Update)

This machine is brand new and came loaded with XP pro which I patched and updated via Microsoft Update. This is my work box and logins into a Windows domain using active directory.

It runs fine for 99% of tasks but after a reboot when I get the following error message:

WMIerror.jpg

The contects of the error are:

WMIerror2.jpg

Does anyone have any experience with the WMI program from Microsoft?

Any information would be appreciated.

I figured it out.

Dell has this little utility in their OEM version of XP. This little utility tracks your disk space usage and tells you when disk space is low or has been added while the system is running.

The utility is not "Network (NAS) or USB Drive aware" so as network drives are filled and cleared the utility constantly pops up messages and eventually crashes the wmimvse.exe service.

I could not find a a way to delete this service and
Dell was no help so I loaded our corporate edition of XP and the problem has gone away.

Dell sucks. :( I wasted hours on this.
