Wireless mini-pci hardware

I want to build an access point and I've been looking at mini-pci adapters.

I've been considering this item

I want to have a strong setup that will provide coverage to all floors of my house and possibly the back yard. I don't know a whole lot about wireless hardware so my question is a 800mW card overkill?

I wanted to just add a pci card to my server. However, the more I've been reading it seems like the best option would be to have an external embedded box placed at the optimal location in the house. You could just make it a bridge and plug it into an rj-45 cable.

Anyway, I think I'm gonna wait a while for this project.
