AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2.2GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket 754 Processor - OEM $59.99

to replace my A64 3000+ Newcastle 2.0ghz, the only difference i see between the two are...

venice 90nm newcastle 130nm
Venice HT1600MHz newcastle HT800mhz
venice 1.4v newcastle 1.5v
venice 2.2ghz newcastle 2ghz

What do you guys think for 60 dollars? Worth switching? Maybe some better ram down the road?

He's on socket 754. He has to get a whole new board (and possibly memory if he goes AM2 since 939 is EOL) to get dual core.

The main differences with the 3200+ would be the voltage (1.4v instead of 1.5v) and 200MHz extra on clockspeed. Also, because of the die shrink and lower voltage, it'll run cooler as well. Should handle higher amounts of memory better as well.

Is that worth the money? That's up to you.

No he doesnt...doesnt have to go am2 anyway. He can use his current memory by buying a cheaper board, Biostar t-force 6100 939 anyone? And a 165 or faster opty can't he?

He could buy a new core dou 2, mobo, and ddr2 ram...

If your overclocking, then the venice is worth it. At stock, there is going to be no difference. ;)

well if you plan on waiting lets say another 6 months to a year to do a major upgrade, then go do it, its your money.
