XBOX 360 headset malfunction

Ok, so I have the head set that came with the system, nothing fancy or anything. Now, when I plug it in about 85% of the time, the little speaker icon shows up in games like its working. However no sound comes in through the headset other than the "click / pop" noise you hear when you plug it in. And no sound goes out, i'll talk all i want and the little speaker icon doesn't register it and no one can hear me.

There is no physical dmg to it that I can see, and 15% of the time, this stupid ass does work.

So, question is, is it repairable?
Could it be the controller?

Man... I wish they made headsets like yours mandatory for all the 360 players below 16.

If you have a friend with a 360 borrow their headset and see if it works- that way you can see if it's an issue with the headset, or if it's an issue with the controller.

I would check your voice settings first to confirm everything is correct. It is possible that its the controller so you might want to try another one of those too.

well i borrowed a controller last night and the headset worked fine.....fucko
