I can't even remember them all at this point, I'll do my best.

Some kind of Cirrus Logic chip that could do 32 shades of grey, no color > Cirrus Logic ISA card that had 16 color support > Some kinda chip that was VESA with VGA support 256 colors > Can't remember if ISA or PCI, probably an ISA card that had 16K colors finally > PCI Diamond card (forget the chipset) that supported hardware accelerated MPEG-1 for the first time > PCI Diamond Xpert@Play PCI (RagePro chipset, first 2D/3D accelerated card > Diamond Monster Voodoo2 12MB (Glide FTW) > Intel i720 AGP (first AGP video card) > Diamond Banshee (i don't know why) > Rage 128 (much better 3D and OGL support, great IQ) > Riva TNT2 > Rage 128 Pro (this was somewhere can't remember where) > GeForce 256 > Radeon 8500 some such > GeForce 2 (forget the order) > GeForce 3 > GeForce 4 > Whatever the fastest was from ATI and NV up to now, heh, I can't really remember them all, way to many, I had some Matrox's in there somewhere, and an STB Voodoo 3 in there somewhere, I've forgotten them all, too many.

Before PC:
ECS (Amiga 500)
AGA (Amiga 1200)

Then PC:
Some old Cirrus Logic(or Trident?) 512K video RAM card
S3 Trio + Voodoo1
Geforce 256
Geforce 2 Pro
Geforce 3 Ti500
Geforce 4 Ti4600
ATi 9800 Pro
Geforce 6800 GT
Geforce 7800 GT
Geforce 8800 GT
Geforce 285 GTX

^ Oh yeah, Trident sounds familiar, had one of those, and S3 Trio as well, though I preffered the Xpert@Play (Rage Pro) combined with Voodoo 2, BEST COMBO EVAR, the best 2D quality, D3D acceleration, Glide and OGL acceleration.

Oh yeah, I had a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP also somewhere in there, still have it in a drawer! VSA-100 FTW I think Kyle has a Voodoo 5 6000

Discrete cards went something like:

Riva TNT (first AGP card)
Riva TNT2 (truly excellent card)
GeForce 256 SDR (because TNT2 died) with 3D glasses! (uncomfortable, never used, card ran very hot).
GeForce 4MX
Radeon 9500
Radeon 9700 Pro
Radeon X1800GTO (first PCIe card)
GeForce 9600GT

There was some swapping around with my brother at times as cards died, etc (e.g. he got a Ti4200 when I got the Radeon 9500). I upgraded to a Kyro 2 in 2001, but it had display problems with Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, so it quickly went back - I think that's when I got the GF4MX.

BFG GeForce 5700
BFG GeForce 5950

Sapphire ATI 4870 X2 in single and CrossfireX
BFG 8800 GT (still running)

BFG GTX 280
BFG GTX 285 (mine)

I have children who like to game.......go figure........of course, so do I.

from memory...
Nvidia TI 4600
ATI 9600
ATI 9700 pro
ATI 9800pro
ATI X800
ATI X850
ATI X1950
Nvidia 7800 GTX
Nvidia 7900 GTX
Nvidia 8800 GTX
Nvidia 260 GTX

there were some before the 4600, but I don't remember what they were..

9800pro -> x800pro -> x1950 -> x1950 cf + 1950xt -> 8800gtx -> 4870x2 -> ???

I can't remember the card in my first computer which my Dad bought me. But after that...

TNT2 -> Ti 200 (got it off a friend who was upgrading to a 6800GT) -> 8800GTS 320mb.

When my TNT2 stopped playing games I bought an xbox and didn't really play many PC games until the 8800GTS.

S3 Virge 3D
Hercules Verite 3D
ATI Xpert@Play
Monster 3D Voodoo 1
Maxtor G400
Monster 3D Voodoo 2
GeForce 2 64MB
GeForce 4 MX400 (The MX stands for Maximum Suckage)
Geforce 6800GT
ATI X1900XTX
2xHD3870 Crossfire
nVidia 285 GTX

riva TNT 16mb
mx400
9700 pro (this thing was amazing at the time for me lol)
x850xt
x1950xt
8800gts 640mb

then i've had all of the 4800 series mostly in crossfire, and all of the gtx200 series except a 295.

right now i've got 2 x 260's sitting here, but gonna step-up to something better just so i keep some value in the cards.

Hmmmm, okay.
ATI Rage XL 8MB --> Nvidia FX5200 128MB --> Sapphire X1950XT 512MB --> Visiontek HD4850 512MB

I remember my very first computer was a Compaq which had the ATI Rage graphic card along with 64MB of RAM...
Man...how I totally do NOT miss those days. It had Windows ME installed and I swear, the moment the Ethernet cable was plugged in, 34985769834759834534 spyware, virus, and ad-ware attacks would be recorded by Norton, Zone Alarm, or whatever..

Some cirrus logic built in to a Packard Bell Computer was my first. I remember buying a decelorator card and couldn't use it cause I had no PCI and trying hard to find a converter. :p Ended up buying an ISA video card which was really my same cirrus logic with 2 megs of memory. How funny.

Cirrus Logic 1meg
Cirrus Logic 2meg

Riva TNT My first card and I was so blown away playing Motorhead (still have the game.) Played and looked so awesome with motion blur on my crappy hyundai 800X600 15 inch monitor.

Geforce 2MX Great card that performed pretty close to a Geforce 256 32 DDR.

Geforce 4200 Awesome card and the first card I remember paying 200 and getting the performance of a 350 dollar card (Geforce 4400.) Remember seeling this card to someone on here.

Radeon 9700 PRO Nothing I can say that hasn't been said about this card. I remember buying this card

Geforce 6800 GT Fantastic card.

8800 GTS 320 SSC Got it cheap and a great performer.

Geforce 275 GTX My next card was suppose to tbe the 250 GTS. As of now until I can't return it this is my midterm card until the new DX11 cards come out and I can buy one and relive my 4200/9700/6800 nastalgia of buying new tech.

Do they even still make tech demos? I only remember one tech demo and it was for the 8800 line.

Wow thats real hard to say. I dont even remember my first graphics card. It was on a gateway comp with a P1 100mhz cpu so I know it was like a S3 card or something. Ive also had multiple comps so its hard to put the progression down just right but ill try.

S3 > Ti4200 > 9800pro > X850 pro > 7900GTX > 8800GTX > 4870 > 4890

I am sure there are alot of older cards that I have had that I dont even remember but thats the jist of it.

I remember an old S3 Trio 2MB that could barely run Diablo II, and couldn't run the expansion because of all the cool things they put in. xD

Anyway...

S3 Trio < GeForce MX440 < ATI Mobility X300 (yay laptops!) < 7600 GT (changed heatsink) < ATI 2900 Pro (change heatsink) < ATI 3870 (yup, heatsink changed)

I seem to be a Radeon fan. Hooray? (I've been looking at the GTX's lately. And the 4890.)

I know I'm missing a few and compiled the list from old EBay auctions of mine. Not sure of the order of the first half either. You'll notice a few side-grades as well, but thanks to Ebay it hasn't costed me much and even made a little money on a few of the cards..

Ah one of these threads again. It's kewl, I'll play.

Radeon Mac Edition something 32mb. Played games like q3 and Elite Force like ass on my old G4 powered rig.

GeForce 3 Ti 200. First PC based graphics card. Kicked some ass for a fanless solution. Came in my Dell Dimension 4400.

GeForce 4 Ti 4600. Replacement for the Ti 200. Brought the frames up but AA performance was still in the toilet.

ATi 9800Pro. Replacement for the Ti 4600. After I saw what a beast the 9700Pro was I had to have it's refresh. AA performance was awesome. Made me a fan of high detail PC gaming in an instant.

ATi x800xt-pe. Replaced the 9800Pro in a newer and more powerful P4 based rig. Games like FarCry just sang with goodness.

ATi x1950xt agp. Horrible. Bad/no driver support for older agp rigs. Artifacted on desktop due to DVI frequency limitations. Sent it back. No sent 2 of them back. After this experience I upgraded to PCI-E.

EVGA 8800gtx. Wow. Expensive but wow what an upgrade. Like going from the 9800pro to the x800xt-pe. Night and day. Ran that card on my current rig (nothing overclocked) for quite some time. Got the balls to overclock and brought more performance from both the CPU and GPU.

Currently: My GTX285 from EVGA. Decent upgrade from the 8800gtx. Price to performance ratio is the best so far. Only costing around $325 bucks (vs the $500+ dollar bullshit from 2-3 years ago) I couldn't be happier. I can run pretty much every game maxed out detail wise @ 1920x1200. Not max AA but still, at high rez huge levels off AA become less important.

/end history

I hadn't seen one of these threads at least for awhile. Nice lists, I remember researching the TNT and Kyro II line of cards but could never convince my parents to buy one lol.
