I just feel so ripped off after this year that wanted to test if people also had major gaming spend this year. I think I have spent the highest amount of money on games this year than possibly a couple of years before combined.

Would like to hear from you guys as to how much you spent on gaming this year to gauge if I am overspending, underspending or at par.

Post away your gaming spend. Note that distinguish between platforms and if you purchased new hardware than add it in separately (e.g., new console and/or video card since that is part of gaming spend).

Wouldn't add in new CPU etc since it definitely goes beyond just gaming and wouldn't be a good platform.

I still need to calculate my spend so will post back later. Would be nice to get color on individual spends on top of total.

Bought BC2+Vietnam, SC2, and BF3 this year, plus eight months of WoW time before I finally called it quits. So all in all, around $270.

Last year was a big year for me because I built a new rig, this year not so much. Next year will probably consist of a lot of upgrades as well as a couple new games (D3!!!!) so it'll be more than this year most likely.

Damn, if I pirated all the games I bought... I could have had me a shiny new x79 rig with top end mobo, SLI, 32 GB of ram and a top end SSD.

Bought Portal 2, Fear3, Serious Sam 3, and BF3. Around $200 or so. I did build a new PC this year though...probably should have included that in the poll as I clicked the $101-$250 option.

Whoops, I only included actual games, not hardware. Probably throw on another $300-400 for hardware.

I spent less than $100, 12 on Steam, and 1 on Origin.

Just from steam log. There is Amazon, Origin, Direct2Drive, Gamersgate, GetGamesGo, GreenManGaming etc. Hot diggity damn!

I try not to go over $700 for the year if I can help it ..or exert self control.

However if I get my new job , sky will be the fucking limit.

Witcher 2 CE - $130
VVVVVV - $1.24
LIMBO - $2.49

I'm a big spender :p I might still buy something this christmas season if I see a good deal on Steam, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hmm... Bought a PS3 and Skyrim, so that's ~$300 right there. Bought a 3DS and four games at launch, which was around $400 (though, I later sold them all at around a $50 loss...). Those two combined put me at $700, so I chose the 1000-1500 option. Not sure how much I've spent on other PS3 games, PC games, DS games and PSP games. So yea, probably in the $1000 range. But all told damage in at about $650 most likely.

This is, of course, not including computer hardware that I bought for gaming but is used for other stuff. Then I'm way up there.

1500-2000 guesstimating

Bought an xbox and xim3 this year, tons of games for that and pc, and i'm sure I bought a 6950 this year

Nothing much really.

Steam sales:

Borderlands GOTY
COH+DLCs
Cthulhu Saves the World
Max Payne
Max Payne 2
Painkiller's
Portal 2
Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Steam retail:

Hard Reset
Serious Sam 3 (Pre-Order)
Serious Sam: The Random Encounter

Physical copies:

Battlefield 3 limited edition, on release day ofc :p

Hmm, I'd have to think about it, probably around $200. I bought a few new release games this year, as well as a couple of game packs on Steam. I can't remember whether I bought my video card this year or last year, which would add another $200. That's all PC gaming, no consoles for me :)

I did buy some other computer hardware, but I'm not gonna bundle that with gaming as it was more for work than games.

You guys really have tons of self control. I need to learn some discipline. I just spent so much money on random crap on steam sales that it is isn't even funny. :(

Also need to hold off buying games on release. Currently holding off from Skyrim and Serious Sam 3 simply because with Skyrim I know, I won't play it until a year later (similar to FONV that I purchased start of 2011 but still haven't played) and Serious Sam 3 I know I won't finish very soon simply because I get bored of repetitive killing/shooting mechanics.

Somewhere around $300 to $350

And this does not include the upcoming Steam xmas sales which I usually ends up spending a lot :(

Well...

And this does not include the upcoming Steam xmas sales which I usually ends up spending a lot :(
This is why I was glad the question was posed now, not in January. :p

But yeah in general, I don't buy anything on release anymore. I have absolutely no desire to pay $60 for a game, period.

Man all those Steam sales add up :(. Somehow I end up spending way more money every year than before the days of Steam sales. To be fair though, half of the total amount I spent was on a handful of full price games. If you take out DoW2, Skyrim, and...Brink , it's only about $200, which is not bad considering how much game there is for that $200.

I'm the opposite... when I was a kid I never used to buy games at full price at release, I didn't have the money and spent a lot of time gaming and would play a lot of games. These days I earn comparatively so much more and play far fewer games, so whether I pay $60 for a game or $20 for a game really doesn't bother me, my priority is playing GOOD games and not wasting TIME on shit games rather than when I was a kid and cared more about saving money and didn't care whether I was wasting time playing games I wouldn't have otherwise bought if they weren't cheap.

That's not to say cheap games are bad and expensive games are good, its just these days my priority lies with good games rather than cheap games.

I did the same... But I also use "gaming" hardware for non gaming activities. Like using gaming logitec mice because they have extra buttons (and accuracy) and video cards to render/process videos.

This is a bit early to say too...with the steam sales coming up :D

Probably around 3k for me since I build a new rig.

Also spend a boat load of money on steam since I am having a gift war with a friend. I shall NEVER be out gifted :D

Now that I added everything up, I'm looking at around $800 in games for myself this year. If I factored in gifts as well, the number would be a decent amount higher.

I would guess it wold be somewhere around the $1000 mark so far. Mostly on hardware and older games.

Playstation 3 Slim 160
Wii
Radeon R6850
Fender Squier Strat

Pitfall (2600)
Dig Dug (7800)

Alien Storm (Genesis)
Aladdin (Genesis)
Beavis & Butt-Head (Genesis)
Earthworm Jim (Genesis)
Super Monaco GP (Genesis)
Super Hang On (Genesis)
Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition (Genesis)

Wave Race Blue Storm (Gamecube)

Rock Band 3 (360)
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (360)

Super Mario All Stars (Wii)

Including my wife, son's PC, and consoles, I probably spent more the $800 that I specified. Dang.

Oh crap, didn't read the OP first...just rated my actual games spend. In terms of the hardware...then I'm well over the $2k mark, built the rig in my sig this year, perhaps even $3k+ with games and hardware.

Yeah, I built the rig in my sig, the 4.2 ghz Phenom II. That was 1500 bucks back in June.

This month I bought a 3DS plus a DSTwo Supercard, and I'm planning on Zelda and Mario and Karts 7 by the end of the year. 250 bucks.

I spent several months assembling a 7800 Prosystem complete with controllers, then started buying up all the 7800 titles I could find... I'm up to 30, about half the library that didn't suck, and a Harmony cartridge to play all the 2600 titles. 700 bucks.

Then some odd Steam titles, a copy of BF3 PC which I NEVER play because I keep getting disconnected, some Fallout New Vegas DLCs, Skyrim PC. 200 bucks.

So, $2650 that I've spent this year that I can remember. After I finish this message I'll probably remember another 1000 dollars I blew here and there, on printers, external storage devices, media.

Damn I might have a gaming problem.

Radeon 6950, 2500k, motherboard + whole bunch of games.

I'm going to cheap out and go on a $200 diet for games next year.
I hope I can make it!

I bought a new computer so 1000$ right there.

For the games, I could check how much I spend so far in my monthly budget but I'm at work.I think it anywhere from 500 to 1000$

I also picked up a new PS3 to replace my dying fat... so another 350$....

Good thing my GF doesn't check the budget :D

$280 after credits: Xbox 360 Holiday Bundle + Halo Anniversary
$590 after MIRS: ssd, video card, monitor, mouse, headphones
$75 Five months of WoW
$100ish from Steam/Amazon game sales (Bioshock 1&2, Deadspace 1&2, Batman AA, Borderlands GOTY, Orcs Must Die+DLC, Terraria, Splinter Cell Conviction, Crysis + Warhead, Grid, Portal 2, Sanctum, Serious Sam Gold Pack, Metro 2033)
$0 for BF3, Dirt 3, Shogun 2 ("free" with other purchases from Newegg)
$60 for Crysis 2
------
$1105

Sad. I think I need a new hobby...

I bought a PS3, assorted games averaging $20 each, and some $5-$10 games on PSN here and there. My computer can barely run new games lol so I don't buy PC games. The fun/price ratio of my PS3 is worth every penny.

My best purchase fun/ratio wise is Just Cause 2. I spent nearly 90 hours in this game, and bought it for $20 used.

Overall I am looking at about $500 altogether for the PS3 and the games. The PS3 did come with a $100 walmart gift card too lol :)

I try to spend the large majority of my budget on hardware. Games themselves, I wait to buy until they're $2.50-$10 for GOTY editions. Probably $400-500 on hardware, < $100 on games themselves.

I buy and resell games or rent. So basically I am holding about 100 in video games right now (COD/Skyrim/Batman, which was a gift). Otherwise I spent about another 100 just on a WoW 60 day card and buying and reselling all the major releases.

Oh I guess I bought BF3, while good is technically a loss of 60.

(Prives are averaged to the nearest $10 unless under $25, and all prices include shipping)

~15 PS3 games x $50
~25 XBox 360 games x $50
2 Wii games x $40
1 3DS game x $40
2 3DS VC games x $5
9 PSP games x $30
~30 DS games x $30
6 XBox Arcade games x $10
9 PS3 online games x $10

6 Origin games x $40
~75 Steam games x $15
~40 GoG games x $5
3 Boxed PC games x $40

Rockband 3 Keyboard & stand x $100
2 TB Hard Drive x $250
Yamaha YSP 2200 x $900
Nostromo Gaming Keypad x $60
Wireless Mouse x $40
2x Razer Goliathus Mouse pads x $25
Xim3 x $180
Nintendo 3DS x $250

Grand total: $6835.79 For 2011 (Guess I probably should have looked at my expenses before vastly underestimating my spending habits for answering the poll).

*EDIT*
Forgot the XBox Live Gold subscription along with the Playstation+ subscription in the above figure.
Forgot iPhone games (only 7 x $1)
And donated roughly $100 to the Humble Bundle this past year.
~$5000 for games
~$2000 for hardware and accessories

Just all of my steam games (started this year, after getting portal for free), would probably be 600usd+

As for HW.... too much, lol. Even into the consoles

Yeah, should not add CPU, monitor and all that shit because then everyone hits the 2000$+ budget. Wanted to know more about games and only VC + console h/w that is specifically for gaming.
