You want to upgrade from Core 2 Duo to an eight-core chip? Sounds like quite a jump to me.No current plan on updating my system, perhaps when octa core becomes main stream.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ S939 (First custom build CPU, beat the pants off my old P4)
Intel C2D E8400
AMD Phenom II X4 955
Since age 16 (1997):
Cyrix M2 300 (233mhz)
Athlon 550 (slot A)
Athlon Thunderbird ..........1.0 @ 1.33
Pentium 4 Northwood.......1.6A @ 2.4
Athlon XP Barton 2500+...1.8? @ 2.5
Opteron 165....................1.8 @ 2.5
Core 2 Q6600 .................2.4 @ 3.0 .......+Laptop Turion X2 TL-50 @ 1.6
Phenom 2 720 ................2.8 @ 3.4
Core i5 750 ....................2.66 @ tbd
Opteron something or other by AMD (underwhelming, should have waited for core 2 duo)
Pentium III (Don't know what model, but slow)
Pentium IV(Don't know what model, also slow)
AMD X3 720 BE (Unlocked!)
i7 4930k (I'm going home to snag that tonight and put it into my current case until I get more parts for my new rig).
I feel like a baby looking at some of these lists..
TMS9900 in a TI-99/4A - 1982, in my first true computer, cpu ran at 3 mhz.
8086 Intel in a Compaq Deskpro - 1985, was 1 mhz stock, 3 mhz on turbo.
486-33 Intel - 1989.
286-20 AMD - 1991.
PR150+ Cyrix - worst PC ever, should've gone for the Pentium-100. - 1996
P2-450 with 100 mhz FSB - 1998
P3-550 with 100 mhz FSB - 2000
Athlon XP 1800+ Palomino - 2001
Athlon XP 3200+ Barton - 2003
C2D E6600 @ 3.0 ghz - 2006
Phenom II X4 945 BE @ 3.6 ghz - 2009
Phenom II X4 955 BE @ 4.2 ghz - 2011
Planning a new build for 2014, it'll probably be a Haswell.
Should've been stock, I just left the turbo on forever. I guess that's why we don't have turbo buttons anymore.Damn, I wish we could get 200% overclocking gains nowadays.
