Granted my headphones are just some old Sony non amplified ones.

When I plug the phones into the jack it works fine, however I have to literally turn it all the way up for it to be loud enough to hear.

Is that just the way the Logitech Z5500 is? Or is it because of the crappy headphones?

That's just the way it is with Z-5500. I have to crank the volume up also.
Be careful when you switch back to speakers though... :)

just tested it.... putting the headphones into the jack on the z-5500 cause sound to be lower... and also.... if u notice.... if you turn the bass up or even leave it as it is.. the bass in the headphones distorts.. while when I connect it straight into my audigy 2 zs... it is nice and punchy...

Must be your headphones, because mine worked fine on the 5500 headphone port. You can also try a little headphone amp. I know Mr. X (Hes the Audio section moderator) makes a nice one, may want to PM him for more details ;)

Well it works fine.... happens on both my z-680's and z-5500 on my sennheisers and sony's... it'sjust the volume is lower tha usual but it is ok when you bump up the control pod.... but from my experience I can hear a decrease in bass performance.

Oh ok so its not just my phones. Thanks for checkin that guys.
Ill try to plug directly in the ZS :)
