PF Prophet Banned

My EVGA SSC works perfectly and doesn't run hot. Me luv it long time.:D

There are problems out there though but not limited to just one company. On the other hand I always have to remember that people mostly bitch instead of praise and user error is rampant.

And you would know about that because you've already had multiple accounts here banned for trolling.

Bye!

Like a moth to a flame, this thread is.

Now that you have cleaned up the Nvidia section, why not do some clean up in the ATI and AMD sections.

That's actually how it works. On many forums join date is a sign of intellect or credibilty so someone with a join date of yesterday is called a noob 07er, but someone from 2004 has been around and knows what he is talking about.

Viral marketing is very advanced. ;)

Only those that think small would consider join date or number of posts as a sign of intellect. Fact is there's tons of crap spewed forth daily, adding to post counts. Does this mean that they're actually intelligent people?

Furthermore some of us were around since nearly the beginning however life moved in a different direction and we lost touch with the [H]. After a while we came back for whatever reason.

See...post count and join dates don't really mean shit.

That's cute but this had nothing to do with nVidia itself and everything to do with someone badmouthing a production company (or whatever you call the brands who resell OEM hardware).

I have a bfg 8800gt card i got at bb using my 12% coupon for price of 246. Finished the crysis demo without a hitch. Thanks BFG

Of course not. Most intelligent people know this.. but then again, most people aren't that inteilligent.

Furthermore some of us were around since nearly the beginning however life moved in a different direction and we lost touch with the [H]. After a while we came back for whatever reason.

Yep, life happens but then again.. in some places you are only as good as your join date.

See...post count and join dates don't really mean shit.

In reality? No, they don't. It's all about perception. You can go to any number of forums around the internet and the attitude is prevelant. People feel superior based on join dates and they tend to take things said by people with older join dates more serious than someone who just joined.

You may not think it means anything, I don't either.. but then again we aren't the targets of people who try to pull things like this. They just go after anyone who will listen. This is how viral marketing, shilling and public image sabotage works.

Hell, I base almost ALL of my purchasing decisions on what the [H] has to say about a given product, that's why I have been a loyal member here since 2000....I like the way this site thinks. And Kyle has always, always, been a stand up guy.

When I look at a new part, I try and read about it here, first!

But what will your wife say? Oh you meant that kind of ban...?
Nice :)

After checking out his post at PCP, I can only say that I'm quite stunned. What an extremely immoral thing for a person to do to drive traffic to his so-called "tech site". I'm glad he was weeded out here in short order, and the same goes for bobrownik. I can only hope that BFG hasn't been affected by his childish actions.

Basickly, exectly, liers, spred, oppenion.

Behold Pf Prophet's superb grammar skills. Not exactly bannable offenses, but still ...

I'll be watching his posts over @ PCPer just to see how far he takes everything. Popcorn/recliner's ready.
Also, thanks to the mods for the ban - I really didn't want to see [H] turn into a BFG flamefest.

Looks like the person who started the other thread has been all over the place, saying the same things about the 8800GTs and not just BFG.

The Inquirer linked to a few threads, and here is one where he claims MSI and other brands did the same thing: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=43797

You can tell it's him because his signature is that Ashentech site that he uses on other forums like pcper. Also his terrible grammar skills are a dead giveaway. ;)

If you read the forums linked in that Inq article all you see is him every other post "confirming" and "reconfirming" it, claiming his 'friend' who was banned from said forums is having the problems.

Then you have him in this post (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpost.php?p=522694&postcount=46) recommending waiting for ATI to release cards!

Yeah, certainly no FUD campagin going on here.

I saw that thread when it started and what I found interesting is within the 4th or 5th post our members had caught onto the lie the fellow was instigating. Kudos to the [H]ard community.

Is this thread still open and active? Geez people, move on, this was so yesterday when it was actually exciting.

I cannot believe this guy is continuing to preach his bullshit everywhere, I have seen him at several sites now spreading this crap. Seems like PCPER has got his back though...

Good looking out by taking care of this ass clown.

Yeah, funny how other forums are supporting him despite actual XFX and BFG reps posting there saying what he is claiming is untrue. At least they show their awesome CS by still reaching out to help him replace the card despite having their name drug through the mud.

Oh, and I found it rather fitting that many people backed him up based solely on his join date and post count despite his admission to being banned several times on their forum. ;)

Some people just love drama I guess.

Yeah! Like you! It sounds like it's personally bothering you, please, breathe in, breathe out...KK?:D

Yeah, because shooting the shit about relevant topics is 'personally bothering'.

If the topic is of no interest to you, then don't read the thread. Sounds pretty simple to me.

The only thing that slightly bothers me is that [H] gets a bad rap for banning the guy when imo it was the right move. Not like the staff here really cares anyway though heh.

Wow, so that is what happened to the thread yesterday. While I don't agree with everything Prophet said in his original post, I think there was a small bit of truth to it, that is about some 8800gt cards being bad.

I got one of the first XFX 8800gt's from the Egg and it did exactly what Prophet described. 2d worked fine but seemed a little slow at times, but trying anything 3d would bsod the machine just like clockwork. I thought maybe it was heat related so I put a Maze4 gpu block on her and it still did the exact same thing.

So I do think some of what he said is true, but It does seem odd that a BFG rep would say to not buy the cards for a couple weeks to clean the retail lines. But who knows...

Well, I guess when you put the fact that PCPer is backing him next to their whiny article linked from the [H] front page recently about "Why is everyone preaching doom and gloom about poor little AMD/ATi?", it's easy to see where their editorial biases rest. Fanboys in journalist's clothing, if you ask me.

[H] follows the products that give us the power, whatever they are and whoever makes them.

Who says they didn't deduce it? Maybe they let it slide to add validity to the story.

I fucking love this place....Kyle and his crew are the coolest nerds ever!

LOL that is so poorly written that I don't even know what it means, seriously I have no clue what that sentence was supposed to mean, o the fun of the internet.

He was picking out the spelling errors that PF Prophet was making throughout most of his posts.

Anyway, Kyle how did you come to the conclusion that what he said was a lie? I was thinking about picking one of these up within the next few days and if there's any validity to what he posted I'd like to avoid it. Of course I know there's a chance I'll get a dud card as it is, but I don't want a substantially increased chance when my spendable money comes from the systems I build and sell off in the newspaper.

We work hand in hand will all these video card companies and they are literally a phone call away, and yes, I do call them to verify things I read here.
That's how he knew that the guy was lying.

That's how he knew that the guy was lying.

The official line and what some CS rep says can differ greatly. Just because you got the "official word" doesn't mean it's the truth. Companies lie all the time. When was the last time a company claimed one thing and the opposite was true? Happens all the time.

I wouldn't go so far as to believe either PF Prophet or BFGtech, there is really no way to know for sure. It's he said / she said. However this stinks more along the lines of HardOCP pandering to corporate interest. If official contact was made I'd suggest the OP be edited with a notice stating that the official word is that there is no problem, however I would also leave the thread open and let users discuss if they have had similar issues.

Looking on other forums it appears there are others who are having problems. If I had had heard from a rep that he had 175 calls on this issue then I'd probably hop on the internet to let people know as well. I don't see why people were so quick to pander to BFGtech. Those who were calling for him to be sued for libel, my goodness that's silly. Frankly I am disappointed in HardOCP & it brings to question the sites integrity.

Well, there's a lot of thing that just don't add up in this case. If one CS rep had really gotten 175 calls on the issue, then that would mean that at least half of the the other 150-300 reps would have a similar number of calls on the issue. That means there would be at least 10,000 and as many as 50,000 bad cards floating around the market. That's a lot of bad cards for there to be as little press on this issue. That's especially a lot of cards for a company (either the manufacturer or the rebrander) to not be aware of an issue. These kinds of things are tracked and a red flag would be sent up the chain real quick if the number of reports were even half the numbers I mentioned.

While I'll agree with you on the corporate lies aspect, BFG, XFX and eVGA are generally very respectable and upfront about issues with their products. Take last years 8800GTX pre-launch problem. They could have just as easily not said a word about it and few people would have been the wiser because the problem was fixed in time for the official launch, but they didn't. They announce the issue, gave details, and promised it would be fixed. This isn't Sony we're talking about here.

No offense guys, but did you guys forget the GTX launch?? Bad resistor ring any bells?? And let me tell you....NV was not all that quick to admitting they have a problem either, but thats just the way things work. They didnt admit to it until the story got so big that they couldnt ignore it anymore. They said that they fixed all the cards before launch also which was bull. I had 2 EVGA cards with the wrong resistor which were replaced quickly tho.

Does this story about the 8800GT sound like FUD??? I will admit that it does, but I thought the bad resistor on the 8800GTX that plagued most of the launch cards was BS also. So never say never.

I remember a bunch of corporate fuck ups that no one wanted to admit to until they had no choice. So if you think that NV or BFG would come on here and admit they have another launch problem you are pretty fuckin naive. Now Im not saying that I dont believe Kyle and the 8800GT has a problem. Im just saying that some of you really need to stop swinging and just go off the facts. And so far I have not seen an official statement from neither NV or BFG.

And as far as credibility is concerned. Lets think about it for a sec. BFG sell NV products. BFG also advertises here so if they told Kyle there is no problem.......guess what???

Thats what he is going to tell you and unknowingly he could be tellin a lie.

Lets wait for an official statement I say or just wait to see how this plays out.

Maybe I am alone in this opinion... but threads like this make our forum look really bad. I enjoy browsing around here and this thread is like advertising the fact that we have idiots running around spreading bad info. Best to let those trolls die a quiet death, not draw even more attention to them.

I had not even heard these rumors he was spreading until this thread called attention to them.

I have a great deal of respect for Kyle and I think this ban was necessary, in retrospect. But this type of thread only makes the trolls think they've won. They not only got themselves banned, but they got you to make a thread about them, and got several others who made the mistake of defending their trollish behavior banned as well.

This thread does more to further PF Prophet's propaganda than he ever could have. It should be deleted. He isn't worth our attention.

My memory is quite different about this. I remember a few weeks before the launch that NV had to pull many (all?) GTX's from the channels because of the wrong resistor being used. I remember the problem being fixed well before launch. I never once heard of that issue before NV brought it out to light. I remember that the issue wasn't an actual problem more than it was a concern of what could be a problem had they let it be. I've seen a couple of people who somehow obtained the few faulty GTX's that didn't make it back, and they've had zero problems with them.

kyle, i hope you've taken your time before doing this (almost looks like "Banned" is on a hot sale here),

i'm seeing this thread has become attention for some tech site, specifically on pcper, things are not looking good for us, [H]ard community, so i really hope your decision is right.

i don't wanna hear people talk about how low is [H], for i'm a proud [H]'s community member.

OMG - everyone is actually believing him!!! Someone who's registered on there should go and put things right...
