Got my 260GTX back From Viper John

boy did this thread go down in flames fast..

granted it cost a pretty penny, I still think it's a bad ass card.

Exactly. What would you think the odds of telling a customizer at a car show/bike show they wasted money and walking out instead of being thrown out?

People are different and their tastes/hobbies differ. No call to insult another because they made a choice you wouldn't.

Next time someone shows you a picture of their kid, try telling them that's one ugly mofo and see the reaction. Tact has it's uses. :D

the fact of the matter is: It was NOT a good way to spend your money. You could of had something better for cheaper, and a warranty, and room to go even higher. You can try and justify it by saying this is what you wanted. Why you would want to spend more money for less performance is beyond me though.

your analogy doesn't make any sense.

if you dont want to be criticized, then dont post about it on a public forum. This is not fairy land were we all sit down and have a circlejerk.

You are a prime example of whom my post pointed at.
When you get older, you'll see you don't need to attack another to get a point across.

 @ all the flame-age.
I think its really a good idea, I know for a fact I would end up soldering something wrong and getting a 230$ firework show in my case. I like his work, and I wish I could do half what he does, I just don't have the tools, or patience. Either way, OC that thing and find the limits! :D

i didn't attack anyone.

Its simply common sense to understand that if you post something in a public forum, then you might get opinions that you dont like. Deal with it or dont post anymore.

Its also common sense to understand that he paid more and got less. This isnt an opinion, its fact.

I'll quote a biker who's bike made Easy Rider one month, "I built the bike for me, if you like how it turned out great. If not that's cool also, but that's not why I built it."

The OP admitted it wasn't a bang per buck choice he made. He wanted the modded card and is happy with it. Our thoughts on it have no effect on his enjoying the card and that's what counts in the long run anyway. ;)

That goes both ways there buddy....its common sense that if you dont like it, you dont have to read it or deal with it. Its easier to simply pass it by, then waste time and energy being an asshat and criticizing it for 11 pages on a web forum. I think we can all find something better to do with our time.

I'm pretty much done with this thread,I'll leave it open so a few of you can continue to argue about how I am in an idiot.
Thanks to those of you who offered opinions without insults.
I'm happy with my card, and got exactly what I wanted to get.
95% of you accepted that

As for the other 5%... well thanks for your input also.
I bought what I wanted to buy, if you cant understand that, or if that makes you angry, perhaps you have issues that are much deeper than we know.

Sorry to hear the whiners had such an impact...enjoy your mod...

Envy is a stupid way of life ;)

i'm SERIOUSLY doubting any of the "complaints" in here came out of envy... not in any way shape or form.

Correct.
Ignorance,immaturity,lack of insight,tact-less-ness,just to name a few.

Things we don't understand or comprehend make us anxious and we feel the need to lash out.

Go dunk some witches.

Equating you to a monkey playing with his own feces.

Your a fat little punk ass bitch aren't you? One of these days I'm going to slit your throat and have you swimming with the fishes you piece of shit. Texas forever Bitch.

wow remind me not to post anything I consider of value to me on these forums. You little anal retentive punks and your opinions have turned this thread upside down.

holy crap, How did I miss this thread.

kudos to the OP, ViperJohn does excellent work and he is a top notch guy w/ excellent CS.

He did my x850xt pe years and years ago., I see he still uses the purple towel for pictures haha

While I wouldn't have spent the coin doing what the OP did (I'd pick up another 9800GX2 for my in the works quad 9800GX2 Folding box of death), he didn't spend my money so I'm not going to sweat it. If he'd spent his welfare check on the card instead of feeding his kids, then yeah, he's stupid. But I highly doubt that's the case. Crosshairs, if you're happy with it, who cares what anybody else thinks? It's nice work, and I can appreciate it.

Oh, and intranets death threats FTW!!!! I'm sending my packets to kill you!!!! Mom, more hotpockets!!!

how much did that cost you to do? how much did you buy the card for?

Why so he can open himself up to a detailed cost analysis? I think we know where this leads.

i'm just curious as to whether or not it would have been worth it.

on the other hand, when the X850XT PE's were out, they were the fastest card you could buy, and crossfire wasn't in the wild yet, so doing that to the fastest card on the market must have been incredibly fast.

how much did that cost you to do? how much did you buy the card for?

I am guessing $600. Those X850 XTPE's were some damn fine cards. You couldn't get any faster back in those days unless you modded them.

I had a H2O cooled X800XT All In Wonder that I was able to get up to 625 mhz on the core. The nice thing about the All In Wonders was that they came with 600mhz GC16 Samsung GDDR3 DRAM which was faster then the ram on even the 850 XTPE's.

I think I paid around a $150, I got the card for $450, when they were going for a whopping $999! on the egg!

@ the time it was a pretty good deal, as I paid a massive aussie $200+ for my Storm Silver G5 during pre-production...oh the memories, before I had a wife, kid, and a mortgage =P

but yeah this was before crossfire and SLi was still in it's infancy, where the x850xt pe was @ the top of the pack...funny how things come full circle as the x2 is my first ATi card I've gotten since the x850 haha

Wow, a hardware enthusiast getting slammed by 1/3 (a guess-timate) of the crowd at [H]ardForum

Let me say that again... [H]ardForum.

I think it's say to say that Crosshair is 2[H]4U, and leave him be. Christ.

Wow, thats a great deal. How did you get it so cheap?

I used my X800 right up until last year when the games running on the Unreal engine that required SM3.0 started showing up. It was a shame, I don't think anyone from ATI ever figured that those cards would have the performance to last so long that they would still be in use when the SM3 games would finally show up. But, I wanted to play BioShock and Rainbow 6 Vegas, so an upgrade was needed.

hellzz yeahh! I actually have 2 separate X850 Pro cards running in 2 systems, one from back in 04 when i built my first gaming rig!

thing still chugs along on call of duty 4 1024 x 768 and some settings on medium. :D

Why do people make stupid analogies?

"You see.. now if you rented a trailer house that was 60 ft long with 60 hubcaps nailed to the side of it for 3-fitty a month and you decided that you needed a second bedroom for your sister/girfriend's kids to sleep in so you went to Menards and bought a tin shed for $75 and slid it up to the back door for them...."

Seriously... no more analogies.

So far every analogy I've read on [H]ardForum has sucked ass and it always relates to cars. Bad analogies are like... shit. How's that one? :D

This thread is great, for killing time haha

but yea, I had no complaints about the x850 and it ripped all the games that threw @ it...we had some good times =D

My Tyan Tachyon G9700-ProM 128MB card is in my son's PC and it runs COD4 like a champ at 1024x768 as well.

The M on the end of Pro was cause it was a special card that Tyan engineered with hardware monitoring before cards had it. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDA0

ya i even got it working on a radeon 9600XT Overclocked. I swear almost every card can run that game. except for the FX5200 :p

Nice card OP! You should get a second one like that and get some [H]ardCore SLi going!:)

take more pics of that sexy X850 :D

CrossHairs,

That's one sweet looking mod! ViperJohn does excellent work. Many of the cards he modded went were used to post world record benchmarks.

I hope you do decide to post benchmarks of your newly modded card. I personally would really like to see how it performs with the mod. :)

SNIP - : Texas forever Bitch.

wow, way over bored, im so glad this little punk got banned, its about time, all he did was troll through threads and insult people.

Like I said before crosshairs I think viper did an awsome job on your card and grats, hope it serves you well man.
