Help me fix a broke powerbook please.

If the system was dropped and the symptoms appeared after that, it's extremely likely the hard drive is messed up. However, if the issues showed up on their own after a few weeks/months, it's more difficult to determine if the drive is the issue or if it's software corruption. Get the discs...

How to put videos on your new iPod

If you use Videora you'll have to decrypt the dvd first with something like DVD decrypter. I would suggest checking up on some of the guide links on this thread first for more details. In the preferences for DVD decrypter you'll want to make sure it doesn't split the video files into 1gb...

How can I host/stream files on my mac over the internet?

Yes, make sure you're port mapping port 80 and whatever other ports you're using to your Mac Mini. If it's an airport, you can set them in the Airport Admin utility under the Port Mapping tab.

    External Harddrive woes

Making sure to set the jumpers properly? If the drive doesn't even show up in Disk Utility, then you're probably out of luck.. .but if it does show up in disk utility or in the system profiler, then you can use programs like Disk Warrior or Data Rescue X to recover data from it if the...

The LAN port will give ethernet addresses if you plug it into a switch to all the computers you have connected to the switch.

Are ADB Mac mice compatable with PCs?

The big thing is.. an adapter is very likely more expensive than a decent cheap logitech or microsoft mouse.

A few Mac Mini questions...help out a person in transition....

A great site for the printer sharing question is: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/tiger.html I'd go with the middle or the upper model because of: 1) The faster processor, 2) the larger hard drive - it's important later on... it's easy to fill the stuff up over time. 3) The included airport...

    12" iBook questions, for purchase

Yeah unfortunately the close lid operation is only available on the Powerbooks (without the firmware hack).

    What you look'n at!?!

I'm using a 20" apple cinema display too, one of the ADC models. I've had it for a few years now and it's been quite nice.

    Powerbook RAM

I prefer Crucial myself.. Viking, Kingston, Simpletech all seem pretty good too. Corsair for desktops definitely.

    iPod Shuffle or Mini?

That's an interesting point. However, non-computer people also don't typically know how to get music into their computer, so they'd likely use a program (itunes coming with the shuffle would probably be their choice). Once the music's loaded it would autofill the shuffle for them. I do...

    Powerbook G4 won't charge battery?

I would take your battery and your powerbook into an Applestore. If you have your receipt for the battery bring it as well as it has a 1 year warranty. You can also try calling 1-800-APL-CARE and let them know what the deal is with your battery. The fact that the old one works fine leads me...

    Battery on powerbook G4

I use my powerbook the same way.. most of the time it's plugged in. My battery lasts very close to the same amount of time as when I got it (if not exactly the same), so I doubt you'll have any issues by leaving it plugged in. I have seen it suggested that you want to calibrate the battery...

    Mac chat programs

You can add the person to your Address Book with whatever name you want them to show up as, and enter their msn account in the IM section (choose MSN from the pulldown menu too). Adium grabs the contact info from your Address Book.. it can be both annoying and useful at times.
